5.0 out of 5 stars "Harem" animes aren't so bad, are they?
I have to admit it...I really love "harem" animes. Why? Because they're extremely funny. I can watch Tenchi Muyo, Love Hina, Happy Lesson, Sister Princess, etc. repeatedly because they make me laugh. Is this the only kind of anime I like? No, my collection includes series as diverse as Kaleido Star, Azumanga Diaoh, Noir, Nadesico and Evangelion.

The story revolves around our hero Yukinari, a nice, but seriously timid fellow who's been bullied so much by girls that he's developed an allergy to them. So what happens you might ask? Well, it turns out that he gets transported to a planet almost entirely populated by women, where he meets the one female that doesn't affect him, Miharu, who he ends up bringing back...

I first saw the first few episodes of Girl's Bravo at the AnimeUSA convention last October and I laughed so much that my stomach hurt. I've been eagerly awaiting the release of this show on DVD since then. If you hate comedy, don't buy this (maybe check out Serial Experiments Lain or Grave of the Fireflies - both excellent, not a single chuckle between them) but if you like to laugh (and aren't too much of a prude) then check this out.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Way To Start, September 28, 2005
This review is from: Girls Bravo (Vol. 1) (DVD)
I'm new when it comes to anime. The very first show I ever got was R.O.D. The TV and I absolutely loved it, the entire series. So now I need something new and I was hearing things here and there about Girls Bravo so I couldn't resist and I ordered it. Boy am I glad I did! The main character is a young boy named Yukinari and he has a huge problem...a fear of women. He breaks out in hives if he touches, or even goes near, a woman. That's actually perfect because, from his bathtub, he's taken to a small planet, near Earth, called Seiren which is almost entirely populated by women. In fact, men are almost extinct. In Seiren Yukinari meets Miharu, the only girl who doesn't make him get a rash. We also meet Miharu's older sister, Maharu. But we don't get to see too much of Maharu in vol. 1 which is too bad because she seems like such a great character. When Yukinari goes back to Earth Miharu goes back with him. Now she's living in a world she knows nothing about and she can't get enough to eat. So far I am really enjoying this show. It's funny and it doesn't take its self too seriously. The only problem I had with Vol. 1 is that it doesn't introduce too many characters. There doesn't seem to be much of a show right now. But what it does have is the best character in the whole series, Kirie. I love her whole attitude and the way she handles things. She's definitely the one to look out for. I can't wait to get Vol. 2!

5.0 out of 5 stars Typical plot, lots of fan service, but magical none the less, August 9, 2007
This review is from: Girls Bravo (Vol. 1) (DVD)
Its the typical plot, a loser, yukinari, whose been picked up upon by girls his entire life, so much in fact he has gynophobia (fear of girls) he breaks out in hives whenever he's touched be one. Yet, thanks to mishura chan's wishes he gets teleported to the wonderful world of Seirenm where only 10% of the population are male. So you guessed it, thousands of grils chase him around, but /w mishura chan's power they go back to Earth via a bath. With similar events a whole cast unfolds, including a man whose a afraid of men, a blonde girl who clames to be yukinari's soulmate and obssed with black magic, a girl whose also a afraid of men, and much more.

Many people dimiss this anime because of the amount of fan service in it, be warned there is nudity and sexual themes and circumstances, but its great none the less. Have you ever heard of a plot with gynophobia? Although the plot is a bit weak compared to the darker anime of ghost in the shell or elfien lied, i guarntee you this anime will make you a whole alot happier. Who doesn't like to see a loser whose wishes become true, and a whole wonderful life unfold in front of his eyes, struggling to except the changes. Cliche, overused, but magical.

All in all a great romantic comedy, one that you'll be sure to watch over and enjoy. Pick this up you won't be sorry, have fun and enjoy your viewing!

p.s. I usually like the english dubs better for most anime, love hina, full metal panic, etc (yes i'm japanese and fluent-p), but for this one i would recommend the orginal japanese verison. Take care!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just plain FUN!!, March 23, 2007

Girls Bravo is awesome! I am not an expert on Manga or Anime, but this one is fun for anybody. It's like a kids' show, with a little sexiness and tee-hee funny violence.

Don't get me wrong, it's definitely geared towards the 14+ crowd, but the characters' attitudes about sex, and the overall themes of the show have an Idealism and sense of humor that most kids' shows are sorely lacking. I would watch this with my kid if I had one!

Some of the more serious Anime can be confusing or even make you lose interest, I'm watching Blue Gender right now, and it's definitely a "thinker". I watched all 24 Girls Bravo episodes, on 6 DVDs, in 2 days. I'm hooked!

I did not buy the Art-Box the first time, but I just ordered it from a marketplace seller, because this collection deserves an artistic display!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funniest Anime Ever!, January 26, 2006
I was more then happy to have picked this up. This anime is simply fantastic. Frankly, I love the "Harem" animes, and it's certainly not the only kind I enjoy you know. Although one could say that "Harem" thing is rather cliched, this show redefines Harem, in a GOOD way. The laughs never stop(Neither does the fanservice)!

Those seeking a hilarious comedy(that never gets old), like/don't mind Ecchi, should pick this up. If you're looking for a serious story with drama galore....well....this show isn't for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very funny but also risque anime series, January 21, 2008
This review is from: Girls Bravo (Vol. 1) (DVD)
I find this to be a fun combination of Love Hina and Ai Yori Aoshi. Weak main male character, brutish but beautiful female friend that keeps punching him around, lots of love interests, another guy who's a rival, blond and perverted. It has all the trappings of a great anime and its just fun and enjoyable to watch.

Be forewarned: if your not an anime fan or don't know anything about anime, this is a 16+ yr old anime. If you are buying this for someone under 16, be aware this contains a fair amount of innuendo, sexual material and even some nudity. Its not hentai but its definitely a risque anime.

Well, it turns out that he gets transported to a planet almost entirely populated by women, where he meets the one female that doesn't affect him, Miharu, who he ends up bringing back with him. And, that's where his troubles begin...
This series is pretty much harem anime personified, which is perfectly all right if it's done well. But the story here is more than a bit silly, and left me scratching my head on more than a few occasions. There is also a great deal of sexual innuendo,(understatement) which gets almost obsessive at times. That in itself is a pity, because there are some strange and even interesting characters here, but they don't go very far in a storyline that spends most of it's time on titillation.
In the end, I'm forced to conclude that this is a silly little story here, without much in the way of character development. I guess if that's not much of a concern, than go ahead and try "Girls Bravo". The girls are cute, and setup is unusual here. But, there is better stuff out there...

5.0 out of 5 stars Yukinari needs to stand up and brutaly abuse those girls down to the ground, August 22, 2005
By
Ronnie Clay "R.C." (Winnsboro, Louisiana) - See all my reviews
Yukinari is a young male student who's been teased and bullied by (believe this or not GIRLS), its gotten so bad to the point that he has almost allergic reactions to most girls, breaking out the hives whenever he comes into contact with them. One day he was in the bathtub and he fell and gets transported to Seiren, a mysterious world with an almost entirely female population.

The anime ran for two seasons: the first season with 11 episodes and the second with 13.

2.0 out of 5 stars Holy cow, is this series stupid, August 18, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Maybe I'm just too old, but every single episode I've seen of Girls Bravo is just incredibly, mouth-breathingly, drool-dripping-down-the-chin STUPID. It's so stupid, what few laughs I got ("Miharu Discovers Bananas") are tinged with the same sort of guilt I feel watching kids run in the Special Olympics. It's not just that all the characters in the show have maybe half a brain cell among them, but that every "rule" in the series gets ignored one episode after it's introduced. Not broken, just... forgotten.

Example: The main character, Yukinari, is so afraid of women he breaks out in hives at their touch. Right? Wrong. Two episodes in, he still breaks out in hives for comic effect, but he is no longer afraid of women at all, even the ones that are trying to make his life a living hell. By the sixth episode he's unhesitatingly picking up and carrying around a girl who hates men so much her introduction involved her throwing an entire kitchen's worth of utensils at him. Though he still gets hives when he touches her.

If there had been some sort of character development that explained this half-change in personality, it would be tolerable, but there is none. And he's actually the least stupid character in the entire show. His pink-haired co-star, Miharu, sets whole new standards in pure, raw, flagrant stupidity. In one episode, Yukinari tells her that the chemicals in a class experiment are dangerous and shouldn't be tasted, let alone drunk, but the instant he gets dragged off and beaten up again, she happily downs a whole glass of the first chemical she picks up from the table, only pausing long enough to taste it first to make sure it's "delicious."

Take Eiken, remove about 99% of the fan service, and you've got Girls Bravo. Honestly, I've never met anyone who said, "I thought Eiken was such a funny and heartwarming story, but I just wish it didn't have so many girls with huge boobs and tiny skirts in it." At least, not while sober.
