I couldn't put the book down!!! Loved it all! The author really made the characters some alive. I wish they could make a film out of it.

Good read from start to finish. I didn't think I was going to like this book but once I started reading it and seen what the main character went through just to survive I couldn't put it down.

3.0 out of 5 stars What's A Girl To Do?, January 12, 2009
This review is from: A Girl's Gotta Eat (Paperback)
Rementa Renee Broughton grew up in New York City with her best friend Shanelle Anderson. From day one these 2 had a bond and both knew money was an all time high. Shanelle gets her money by shaking her rump shaker and Remi gets her by conniving and stepping on anyone in the way, but both wanted a man with nothing but money. Remi went to the big screen and took Hollywood by storm, the problem is Remi slept with powerful men every step of the way. Someone tries to get in the way of Remi's glamourous life and this puts her in a difficult position to save her career and all she worked for. Not willing to give up without a fight Remi sets out to keep her past hidden and this triggers Remi's revenge plot, but after all a girl has to do what she has to do to keep eating.

A Girl's Gotta Eat was an interesting read at times you will find yourself laughing at some of the things that come out of the characters mouths. The plot was good and the characters came alive, but I think the story at times became too long winded and this loses the reader's interest. I think the story could've been told and wrapped up sooner, but the author still pulled off a funny, scandalous novel. Recommend for all to read.

This review is from: A Girl's Gotta Eat (Paperback)
I had my eye on this book since December and finally bought it the other day. I didn't like the first few chapters because I thought the writing style was a bit immature. But once you read further into the story of Remmi and her best friend Shannelle, the story became interesting. I could not put this book down.

4.0 out of 5 stars By hook or crook!, January 6, 2008
This review is from: A Girl's Gotta Eat (Paperback)
Rementa Renee Broughton is an around-the-way girl with high aspirations of becoming a renowned video vixen. She isn't above or beyond any trick, by omission or commission to 'use what she has to get what she wants.' Shanelle Anderson is her lifelong best friend and strips as her career of choice. A ghetto-fabulous version of Thelma and Louise, these two are taking life by storm, whether it be in the bedroom, on a pole, or committing robberies. You name it, they're pulling all kinds of capers.

Although these ladies always have brilliant ideas and even grander schemes, they never seem to tally up the higher price that will have to be paid. Remmi has fought tooth and nail to make it to Hollywood in all her glory. Remmi and Shanelle are true-blue, ride-or-die chicks for each other and are always there to wipe the grit and grime off each other from their devious antics.

A Girl's Gotta Eat is a quick and easy read. The plot is commonly used, but I love the way Michelle Valentine spiced it up with enough drama to keep you entertained and added a few life lessons. Despite the characters being sheisty and always attempting some sort of scam, I actually enjoyed both of their roles. I found myself rooting for their triumph in spite of their trade. I commend the author on a super read that entails sexy bedroom scenes, treachery, lies, thievery, depression, and sickness. In the midst of the dark side of this portrait, she expertly integrates the genuine love of two friends that are sisters in the name of love and not by blood. I look forward to future work from this up and coming author! Great job Ms. Valentine!

This review is from: A Girl's Gotta Eat (Paperback)
This book is crazy. It's out of control. So many things happen to this girl as she climbs up the ladder of success. But she's like the teflon don and even when it seems like she's about to go down, she comes out on top. Excellent read. Read it in 2 days. Loved it. Kudos to Miss Valentine.

4.0 out of 5 stars very direct book, November 11, 2007
This review is from: A Girl's Gotta Eat (Paperback)
this book tells the story of a chick who went into Hollywood and was willing to stay on the Grind and do whatever at all costs. was no shame in her game. she was always keeping a hustle going on. so many things happen all at once and at any moment all she has wanted could all come back crashing on her. the writer points out all the dirt the chick has done and now Remmi gotta stay one step ahead of the curve because things are closing in on her. very good read.
