Book Description

Third in Mancusi's hip, sassy vampire series, featuring the heroine of Stake That!

She's a vampire. She's also a vampire slayer. (It's a long story.) And now Rayne McDonald, Goth girl, has to carry out her most deviant mission yet: trying out for the cheerleading squad.

Rayne already has enough on her plate: her twin keeps whining about whether or not to go all the way; her mom's boyfriend is moving in; and her man, Jareth, who's now allowed out in the sun, has turned from a dark, brooding hottie vamp into a surfer dude.

But this vampire slayer is still on the clock, and she has a new assignment. A member of the football team has disappeared-and her bosses at Slayer Inc. think the cheerleaders had something to do with it. Now they want her to infiltrate the squad and get the dirt. But first, she'll need an extreme prep makeover. If only they'd let her wear fishnets under that revolting uniform.

Here's the next of the books. Book three is called girls that growl it's still by rayne's point of view and her and Jareth have like no vampire powers. Except they can go in the sun. Anyway she's now a vampire vampire slayer. And slayer inc has another job for her , rumors are going around that the cheerleaders are growling and on top of that a local boy is missing so rayne needs to join the team to find out what is going on exactly. She gets on the team by blackmailing the team captain who used to be a best friend. Her first game is on the night of the full moon and after the game ends the cheerleaders all but one that is turn in to a pack of werewolf. They spend the night trashing places in town. On top off that another boy is missing. Rayne traces the cheerleaders steps and figures out were they got bitten and got the virus. So her and jareth make plans to go to of all places England. But after a fight with her mom about her mom;s boyfriend moving in she leaves and crashes the car. Jareth decides rayne is having a hard time with the transformation she's still drinking synthetic blood after a few months of being a vampire. He orders her to stay in the coven and see a shrink while he leaves for England to look for the cure for the cheerleaders. Rayne is mad and pulls the twin switchover and sunny took her place in the coven. She surprised Jareth on the plane and he let her stay and continue on to England. once there rayne pisses off the bitchy England vamps by pulling out her stake. Jareth is angry and he tells her it isn't going to work and when they get back they need to go there separate ways. Sad and feeling alone rayne goes to a bar and ends up wandering off with a boy. That boy is the ware wolf who turned the cheerleaders. he holds rayne captive wanting her to be his werewolf bride. Read more ›

5.0 out of 5 stars Blood Coven Review February 16, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The 3rd book in The Blood Coven Novel has Rayne who has (YES!!) gotten her wish in becoming a Vampire thanks to her Blood Mate Jareth. Rayne without any choice from Slayer Inc is being and I mean forced to become what would make any normal blood reded teenager happy. (Get it Blood Reded) LOL ..Rayne is given the mission to become wait for it.. wait for it.. (Cheerleader!!) I mean yeah I was friends with them when I was in school but having to dress up in those outfits "uggh" no way no how. Rayne's mission is to become one and figure out why her local high school Cheerleaders like to growl. As in being a teenager and a vampire/ vamp slayer and dealing with her mom's new boyfriend and losing her room and a boyfriend who is for so long had an allergy to sun is now thanks to Rayne getting sick and Jareth coming to the rescue and saving her life and all wants to do is play in the sun and hang ten and not spending quality time with her bad enough rayne is left to figure out what is up with hairy cheerleaders (yeah that was too funny when I read that part. Once Rayne figures out what is going on with her fellow team mates it is up to her and Jareth (well he is her blood mate!) to fix the problem and fast before the hair starts flying. Girls that Growl is just as good and funny as the 1st and 2nd books and Mari Mancusi books are always those LMAO stories and if you are reading by paperback or ebook making sure to take with you everywhere you go and you will notice people will start asking you what you are reading and you will be more then happy to tell them and suggest they start from book 1 and work their way up. Girls that Growl will make you laugh giggle and if you are like Rayne enjoy her smart remarks and also realize woman vamps from overseas can be some real asshats I wanted to pull my stake out too!! (Gotta read this book to know what I mean Yeah it was so funny I was cheering Rayne on and was giving Jareth looks that could kill!!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and powerful February 12, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Girls that Growl by Mari Mancusi is the third book in the Blood Coven Vampire series. This book again follows Rayne the Vampire Slayer as she is forced to infiltrate the cheerleading squad to find out why their football player boyfriends have gone missing. Rayne makes the cheerleading squad and find that the cheerleaders have been turned into werewolves. Through all of this Rayne's relationship with Jareth is on rocky ground and her life is slowly spinning out of control.

Mancusi again does a fantastic job of combining a hysterical over the top plot with very complex characters and serious issues. Rayne spends most of the book struggling with her self identity and sabotaging her relationships with the people she loves as she searches for a way to deal with werewolf cheerleaders.

Appropriateness: This book has the same level of adult behavior as the last in the series. Rayne's bad girl antics are shown to be a cover for her insecurity in her life. There's some drinking, some sex talk (but no actual sex) and Rayne lies to her mother (and leaves the country without permission). One of the side characters is a cutter and it is handled in an extremely delicate way. While some think that cutting is something that should never be talked about or mentioned at all, I appreciated Mancusi's handling of the topic.

More About the Author

Mari Mancusi always wanted a dragon as a pet. Unfortunately the fire insurance premiums proved a bit too large and her house a bit too small--so she chose to write about them instead. Today she works as an award-winning young adult author and freelance television producer, for which she has won two Emmys. When not writing about fanciful creatures of myth and legend, Mari enjoys goth clubbing, cosplay, watching cheesy (and scary) horror movies, and her favorite guilty pleasure--playing videogames. A graduate of Boston University, she lives in Austin, Texas with her husband Jacob, daughter Avalon, and their dog Mesquite.
