Every girl with ADD should have a copy of this book!,
By
This review is from: The Girls' Guide to AD/HD (Paperback)
As a woman with ADD myself I know first hand about the struggles girls with ADD face. I wish I had a book like this when I was growing up. While there are some great books already for women with ADD and ones that help adults understand girls with ADD, this book is unique. It's specicially written for girls with ADD not adults.
The format of the book is very "ADD Friendly". The fonts used in the book are fun and inviting to girls with ADD. The illustrations are also very helpful at grabbing the reader's attention and keeping the readers attention. The content on this book is specificly written for girls with ADD. It covers specific issues which pertain to being a girl with ADD and how to overcome many of these issues. The balance of information and humor makes this book appropriate for young female readers.

I bought this for my newly-diagnosed 9-year-old and have decided to keep it until she is a little older. Looks well written and presented in an interesting format. But it addresses issues that a little bit older girl needs to read about, not a 9-year-old.

Written with humor and encouragement,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Girls' Guide to AD/HD (Paperback)
Written with humor and encouragement, The Girls' Guide To AD/HD is a compendium of explanatory facts and practical advice on how to life a full and successful life while dealing with peers, teachers, friends and family despite AD/HD. Three girls (Maddy, Helen, and Bo) each have unique personalities and combinations of AD/HD traits enabling the reader to learn all about what AD/HD is like for girls; how the AD/HD brain functions; how adolescence impacts AD/HD symptoms; how counseling, coaching, and medications can help; how to deal with emotions that range from anxiety and anger, to forgetfulness and depression; the advantages that having AD/HD can have; how to cope with school and homework; and how to get along with others. To put it simply, The Girls' Guide To AD/HD is "must" reading for girls having to cope with this increasingly widespread condition and should be available in every school and community library.

This book was an immediate hit with our girls. It helped them understand the nature of AD/HD without making it sound like it was a dreaded disease to have.

Fun book for girls with ADHD,
By
This review is from: The Girls' Guide to AD/HD (Paperback)
This book was fun and easy to read. It had a lot of hard science written in a way that grabs your attention and is simple to understand. It offered good tips for dealing with a variety of situations which can be challenging to girls with ADHD. I think it would be appropriate for both tweens and teens. It is geared more toward the inattentive girl rather than the hyperactive/impulsive girl. I think it will also appeal more to traditional girls than to "tomboys".

Funny AND Informative,

This review is from: The Girls' Guide to AD/HD (Paperback)
Right away we are welcomed into the strange world of AD/HD and offered an experience of "A Day in the Life" of Maddy. In this clever approach, we get a real feel for the difficulties of this disorder: both for the person who has it (and how they see the world) and for the people around them. Amazing how such a conversational tone can convey so much information, while also using the complex structure of the AD/HD mindset. Excellent concept, friendly delivery, very helpful.

Great Reference for ADD families /girls or boys,
By Lynne F. (US) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Girls' Guide to AD/HD (Paperback)
I thought this book was great for myself and my children. The information about brain chemicals and function was at a level my teen daughter can "get" with out too much analysis. The characters (who represent girls with different coexisting conditions) interspersed throughout the chapters add insight to the text. For myself, I was originally wanting more technical detail. However, the writing style is more geared to allow the pre-teen and teen readers to absorb information, exactly the intended audience. I can get the technical details from a textbook. I think this is a great read and have recommended it to everyone from the middle school librarian to friends with boys--very informative and worth owning a copy!

Best Ad/HD Book Out There!,

This book is simply amazing. I was first diagnosed when I was five, and didn't really know what AD/HD was other than it meant I was hyper sometimes and couldn't always focus. When I got re-tested at 16, my tester recommended I become more informed about AD/HD, so I bought a few books, and honestly, this is the only one that I ever finished (heck this is the only one that I even read of full chapter of). This book made me realize just how many of my annoying habits weren't my fault and helped improve my self-confidence IMMENSELY. I even lent it to a 12 year old boy after he got diagnosed and he loved it too. I am now a freshman in college and still find myself explaining the science of AD/HD in the same terms this book did. Unfortunately, I lost my copy (ironic, I know)but I am planning on buying a new copy very soon.

A Must Buy,

This review is from: The Girls' Guide to AD/HD (Paperback)
This is one of the best books I have come across to help children, parents, teachers and friends understand the ADHD girl. I raised a son with ADHD and it was totally different than helping raise a granddaughter with ADHD. I am buying copies for my granddaughter, her mom, her LD teacher at school, and her teacher this year.

Very good, kid-friendly explanation of ADHD. I was impressed with how comprehensive their explanation was and their presentation of the information.
