5.0 out of 5 stars Practical and fun guide for girls.
This book is written for college students by a recent college grad. I wish there were books like this when I went to college! Traci Maynigo covers what girls want to know about surviving college and what they might not know to ask. She covers the basics and more from packing lists, managing your finances, guys, surviving classes, and getting along with your roommates...

1.0 out of 5 stars every bit of advice is either awful or obvious
She completely contradicts herself many times, and write either blatantly obvious cliches like "don't be afraid to try new things!" or just plain stupid advice like "wait until you get there to clothes shopping, so you can see what other people are wearing." The style is written such that one would think her target audience is ten year olds rather than 17-18 year olds...

5.0 out of 5 stars "Girl's Guide" an Incredible Book!, October 6, 2003

This review is from: A Girl's Guide To College: Making the most of the best four years of your life (Paperback)
Traci Maynigo's "A Girl's Guide to College" is the best book for college women on the market, and one of the best guide's to college life I have ever seen. Maynigo's thorough examination of the college experience is remarkable, as she discusses everything from choosing classes to living with roommates to finding that special someone. She manages to keep a light and entertaining tone throughout without trivializing the importance of making the right decisions in college. But most impressive is her ability to discuss more serious issues like sexual harrassment and rape with an openness and honesty that really sets this book apart from previous "Girl's Guides". I highly recommend Maynigo's book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift!, October 6, 2003
This review is from: A Girl's Guide To College: Making the most of the best four years of your life (Paperback)
I gave this to my neice as she went off to school, and she loves it. Before I gave it to her I leafed through it, and ended up reading the whole thing! Funny and instructive, engaging and no-nonsense, A Girl's Guide to College is simply a great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for New College Students, May 29, 2007
This review is from: A Girl's Guide To College: Making the most of the best four years of your life (Paperback)
My daughter is going to college this fall and I bought this book for her. She really liked it and this is what she said:
* Easy to read--like someone talking to you
* Good advice--many things that she had not thought of
* Wide variety of topics

She read it in 3 days while a senior in high school and practicing with her drill team. I.e., she has a busy schedule and it interested her enough that she finished it quickly.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book, November 27, 2003

This book really hits home. As a recent grad I have to say Traci touched on all the important points of surviving in college. Look up the book if you are about to go to college, or just need an uplifting book for freshwomen trying to survive their first year, good luck girls.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eh. Best for People entering college, that are kinda naive., March 24, 2008
This review is from: A Girl's Guide To College: Making the most of the best four years of your life (Paperback)
Good info, but its more of life skills, I think this would be a great read for girls that have not had alot of tribulation in their lives. not so good for girls that have had to grow up before there time.

I got this book as part of a graduation present for my sister. I also chose a gift to represent each chapter. She loved it and now has some of the tools to help her follow the advice in the book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible, November 17, 2010

This review is from: A Girl's Guide To College: Making the most of the best four years of your life (Paperback)
This is a shallow, face value interpretation of one's own point of view of college. Maynigo seems to make assumptions about her own college experience, stating they apply for everyone. In addition, the narrow scope addresses only the stereotypical men and women who attend college. She even devotes three and a half pages to naming stereotypes of different "types" of men in college. She suggests that students deal with roommate issues by complaining "enough" and getting mommy and daddy involved, rather than handling it in a mature manner and going through the appropriate channels - an RA. This is a terrible book for young women preparing for college. It doesn't deserve even one star. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS BOOK.

1.0 out of 5 stars It's not worth reading!!!, July 16, 2007

I don't recommend reading this book. I don't agree with the tips. The tips are a bit immature. I'm not a party girl and this book makes it seem like college is all about partying, guys, etc. College should be about education!!!.....not the social life.
