Praise for The Girls’ Guide to Elvis
“It’s just like being in junior high again. This book offers the scoop on Elvis’s way with women—the wives, the girlfriends, the screaming fans—and leaves plenty of room for ever important hair and wardrobe discussions.” —Time

“Adelman gives a girl all she could want to know about her idol.” —Chicago Tribune

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

The crossover appeal of contemporary country music has created an avalanche of new female fans, and it's these women-or "girls" as the author insists on calling them-who will most enjoy this fun, frivolous primer to the artists, fashions and trends surrounding the music. Adelman, creator of the GirlsGuidetoCountry.com Web site, notes that her book is for fans more concerned about what the Dixie Chicks wear to an awards show than about how many honors they win. The author-whose previous book was The Girls' Guide to Elvis-understands such fans' interests and respects their intelligence; she also has considerable knowledge about her subject (each chapter, for example, ends with album recommendations). There is plenty of worshiping of sexy stars like Alan Jackson and Tim McGraw in these pages, but the guide's most original sections offer suggestions for women seeking to bring the honky-tonk experience into their own lives. A Nashville bartender serves up drink recipes (including the Redheaded Slut and Buttery Nipple), for example, and an image consultant who helped the Dixie Chicks extends fashion advice. The author herself recommends "Ten Great Girl Songs with Attitude" for the karaoke barfly. Though a couple of chapters, like "Record Shopping with Pam Tillis," seem hastily thrown together, Adelman's passion for country music and her sassy attitude should win over most of her readers..

Review

"What a fun book to read!  Anything and everything a girl would want to know about Country Music is in there... right down to the paperdoll cutout stage costumes!”
--Kay Johnson, president of the Toby Keith fan club

"Kim Adelman nails country music -- right down to the hairspray!"
--Tara McNamara, CMT host

"Working in the country music industry and living in Nashville, I have seen and read many books and guides and magazines and newspaper articles about this great industry. But with 'The Girls' Guide to Country', Kim Adelman has packed it all between two covers with a fun style that's all her own. Reading her book is like a nice two-step around the big hardwood floor that is this wonderfully crazy world of country music. For the ins and outs, the ups and downs, the diamonds and the dirt.....this is the book to read! I'm sure 'grrrrls' everywhere will find it hard to put this one down...but right now, I'm having a hard time getting it out of my husband's hands!"
--Liz Beavers, manager, Martina McBride Fan Club

Check it out! I really liked this book. I found it to be a really cool i nsider view for us girls who really like country. I thought that the tone was really fun and light alsol, and the pics and drawings (I like to draw, myself) and the design all came together to make reading this moving and educational. I have taken the author's advice and checked out lots of her suggestions for listening.
