QUEENS OF HIP-HOP FICTION,
By RAYA (BALTIMORE) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Girls From Da Hood 2 (Paperback)
THESE ARE THE 3 OF THE MOST INFAMOUS FEMALE AUTHORS OUT THERE!!! THEY PUT THREE VERY GOOD STORIES TOGETHER. BUT HANDS DOWN TO KASHAMBA AND NIKKI, THEY DID WHAT THEY DO BEST, AINT NO DENYING THAT!!!!
KASHAMBA'S STORY WAS REALLY DIFFERENT FROM ANYTHING I EVER READ, SO I GAVE HER STORY ALONE 5 STARS. I REALLY ENJOYED IT!!! NIKKI'S STORY, WHICH IS A LIL SEQUEL FROM UNIQUE'S STORY IN "GIRLS FROM THE HOOD 1" WAS FIYA, I GAVE IT 4 STARS. JOY'S STORY WAS OK, I ENJOYED HERS ALSO, BUT IT WAS NOT WHAT I THOUGHT COMING FROM JOY, BUT IT WAS GOOD. I GAVE IT 3 STARS. TARAYA ONE! COAST 2 COAST READERS (C~2~C)

Well Put Together,
This review is from: Girls From Da Hood 2 (Paperback)
"GIRLS FROM DA HOOD 2" was well orchestrated amongst the 3 authors. Each story was meshed and correlated to each other in some manner. The authors selected their choice of character and blew up a storyline centered around their chosen characters for this hood book.
KaShamba Williams' story about "Chocolate Girl" was perfected. Her storylines illuminated the life of someone very real with the same issues/complications as Africa, the main girl character. Her downfall due to the weakness of a love for a man was penned so vivid and explicitly. Loved it! (5 Star Rating) Joylnn Jossel picked up the baton with the following story, "WANNA BE". She was the first and very original with her character, Harmony, as a girl from da hood. She wasn't born there, but through association, she was planted there. Kudos to Joylynn, the way she creatively wrote and developed this character's story. (5 Star Rating) Nikki pulled up the rear of the book with "ONCE A HOODRAT...ALWAYS A HOODRAT". This story wasn't quite as powerful as the first 2 stories; which influenced my rating on the book. But her story did have a surprising ending, which I enjoyed. (4 Star Rating) In conclusion, these three ladies did an extraordinary teamwork in this novel. If you want a good "hood" book to read for entertainment - this is your book. The three variations of stories by each author is exceptional. Each author in this novel is a "heavy" hitter. Star Rating: ****4.5

Stuck on Stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ladies, get a grip!,
By Tazzyt2bossye "A Book Junkie fiending for a g... (QUEEN CITY, USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Girls From Da Hood 2 (Paperback)
Girls from da hood is a must read, a collector's item. The second time around is much better than the first!
Kashamba's main character, Africa is so far gone it ain't even funny. She's on her way to Mars chasing a pair of pants, she gives "Treachery" a whole other definition in Webster's book. Like Bernie Mac says, "Stoopid, stoopid!" Joy re-enacts "Crackhead" by Lisa Lennox. It was okay, but too close to Lisa's novel. So if you cop this, don't buy "Crackhead", because you just read it. Nicki's back and doing that "Thang!" "Once A Hoodrat..." is a continuation and it is excellent! The drama and suspense is all that. Unique is still in a world of her making and she never seems to be able to get past self. But, one thing about her is that she's a soldier 'til the end. She is never one to be counted out when all the chips are down because she's definitely one sista that will always have another plan! Bet on it. Congrats to the ladies for doing their thang!

When we are well informed,
This review is from: Girls From Da Hood 2 (Paperback)
Hey People,
Didn't any of ya'll read the e-mail that came around before either of the titles came out? Lisa Lennox is NOT real. Joy was 1 of the ghost writers for "Crack Head", but then Triple Crown Publications told Joy that the book wasn't coming out, because they didn't want to pay her, so she took her work from "Crack Head" and re-worked it and sold the story. After she did that TCP put the book out anyway. Joy was supposed to use the Lisa Lennox name, at one point review copies of "If I Ruled The World" went out with the name Lisa Lennox on them. If you go to Black Expressions right now and look up the book "The Root of all Evil", it says by Lisa Lennox! Even though Joy, wrote that too. The whole industry knew that Joy and Lisa Lennox were the same person. So, don't penalize this book because Triple Crown Publications tricked Joy. True avid reader's would have had their ears to the street and would have known these facts.

On the real, this book is on fire! "Girls from the Hood 2" was sooooo good. I read this book in like one day. All the stories was on point. Kashamba's story "Chocolate Girl" was first it's about Africa and Rock, she did a good job she had me feeling sorry for Africa and hating Rock's behind. Joy's story "Wanna Be" was unbelievable! I was surprised that ol' girl was White! I'm glad that Nikko came through for Harmony. Nikki Turner did her thang, for sure! Her story "Once a Hoodrat" brings back Unique, and she's fresh outta jail, and back in the arms of Took, who she did real dirty last time. Unique is back to her old ways, but what comes around goes around, and all I can say is damn!!!

None of the stories match the story lines on the website. Read a little of the first story and all I can say is that the girl had low self-esteem, dumb, naive, and stupid. Couldnt she see that dude was playing her and even when she found out she still was trying to mess with him. WOW is all I can say

The Path to self destruction.,
By
This review is from: Girls From Da Hood 2 (Paperback)
Nikki, Kashamba and Joy are among the most popular authors of today and I expect to be highly entertained whenever I read any of their novels. Well of course these ladies didn't disappoint...as always they write with an edgy realness that makes you feel like you either have to kick some as* or comfort someone. These authors have delivered three good stories that will surely prompt the reader to stay tuned for the next installment. Each author has written in her own style what really happens when someone follows the road to self destruction. I liked all three stories. Africa - I just wanted to shake her and tell her to wake up and smell the coffee. Harmony - Is a wanna be, who becomes a has been...I like that twist AND I like Nikko... Unique - I felt sorry for her but...what goes around comes around. A recommended read especially if you've read the first book (this is the better book) or if you're planning on reading the third installment. Locksie ARC Book Club Inc. Star Rating 5.0

Book Description Girls From Da Hood 2 is the story of Helena, Storm and Keyshawn, three very different young ladies living in Marcy projects who are linked together by one man. His name is Malek Shaw, and he's the best and the worst thing that's happened to each one of them. Helena Smith's life was on track. She was an A+ student and just voted most likely to succeed in her high school class. She was just about to get out of the ghetto on an academic scholarship until the night of her boyfriend's eighteenth birthday. Now her father's in jail, her mother's abandoned her and she's carrying her boyfriend's brother's child. All Storm Johnson wanted to do was have her baby and spend the rest of her life with her boyfriend, Malek. That is until she woke up one day to find the police knocking at her door. Now she's being charged with possession of drugs with the intent to distribute, and Malek is nowhere to be found. Keyshawn Nixon is Malek's old flame. She used to be a prostitute, but now she's left the life and is looking for revenge on Malek, the man who turned her out." Kashamba does her thing as I have come to love about her. Africa Aka Chocolate was a beautiful story about a girl with low self esteem.Kashamba keeps you guessing with what Chocolate might do next to keep her no good man. Like I always say I never really like short stories because they leave you wanting more but I must send kudos to Kashamba because she left me feeling full.
Nikki well what can I say you are expected by me to hold it down. Of course you did not disappoint with Unique with her trifling behind. I love Unique cause' she is truly gangsta for real. Even when it comes back to bite her in the butt she doesn't let it upset her cause' she truly knows how grimy she is. I hope we see more of Ms.Unique. Nikki even had me feeling sorry for Unique.Whoever picked Nikki and Kashamba to be in the same novel knew what they were doing. PUT ON YOUR CROWN MY SISTERS!!!!!!!!!! Now I have to keep it real or it wouldn't be me I did enjoy Joy's story but it was basically the same story by Lisa Lennox called Crackhead. The only difference was the change in the names. This is why I took two stars away. |
