Sex and Money,
By hunnigurl "book junkie" (alexandria, louisiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Girls From Da Hood 3 (Paperback)
mark anthony's story snake to snitch was about two strippers, lexi and lovely, who smuggle cocaine on the side for an infamous hustler. kashamba's story, brooklyn's finest was about, strippers, fire and marcy who stop at nothing to avenge the rape and brutal assault of their mother adrianne. madame k, star quality, was about an r&b singer who has a dark secret that really wasn't that dark. star quality really didn't fit well with the other two stories. overall i'll give the book 3 stars.

2 out 3,

Kashamba Williams story Brooklyn's Finest is about Fire and Marcy whom we read about in GFDH2.They are now in Miami trying to see what it has to offer them.Their mother is hooked on heroin which leads her to a near death experience. No matter how others see her, they loved her to death. The girls risk their own lives as they plot revenge on the person that committed a horrible act on their mother.
Mark Anthony's story Snake to Snitches introduces us to Latisha and Lexi. They both are strippers working at one of the hottest clubs in NY.They have nothing but money on their minds so Latisha comes across a man name Pooh who offers them a profitable hustle than stripping but things turn bad for Latisha and Lexi and they must decide to become Snakes or Snitches. Newcomer Madame K's Star Quality is about a singer,Star Marshall who is the envy of every woman and desire of every man. This diva does have her share of problems.Onstage she allows others to control her but behind closed doors the tables turn and she engages in a secret life that could ruin her life if exposed. For the most part I would give this book 3 1/2 stars. Out of the three stories,I only found two of them to be very good.Brooklyn's Finest and Snake to Snitch were page turners for me and I flew through them. The last story Star Quality,It took me forever to get through.By the time I reached the middle I wasn't feeling it but I still finished it and I still wasn't feeling it.

Weak,

This review is from: Girls From Da Hood 3 (Paperback)
This installment of the series was a disappointment. The writing & story plots were weak. The did put the stories in order of interest. Of the three stories, "Brooklyn's Finest" was the best, which still isn't saying much. Two sisters who are strippers seek vengeance for their mother's rape and attempted murder. The plot was okay and the ending was fitting. It had the grimy street scenes that make the series. "Snakes to Snitches" was okay. Two strippers think they have found a way to become hood rich but of course the plan goes sour. As the story went on the plot got weaker and the ending was lame. The plot wasn't believeable either. Just shows that some women will do anything to make a few dollars. "Star Quality" was just an all-around mess. Plot all over the place. Writing all over the place. Supposed to be surprise plot twists were slightly confusing and not good at all. Wasn't a "hood" story at all and this girl didn't exhibit any of the classic "from the hood" character traits.
The more I progressed into the book, the more bored I became. I was tempted to start flipping pages. I kept reading to see just how bad it would get.

Not the best of the series, by far.,
By LilliPad (The South, USA) - See all my reviews

As is the usual case with the Girls From Da Hood series, this book is a compilation of hood stories filled with the typical "sex, crime and drugs" element. Kashamba Williams turned it out with Brooklyn's Finest, the first and best story in this particular series. However, the further you read on, the writing grows weak. Snake to Snitch by Mark Anthony is tolerable at best and the ending is whack. I couldn't even deal with Star Quality written by ... I don't even know. It had no tact whatsoever and I started to believe the author lost vision of what they wanted this story to be about. I can understand where the author tried to create mystery by withholding certain information until the climax, but it just left me bored and confused. The actual climax was pathetic, thus making the "mystery" pointless. One decent thing I can say about the story though is that the writer tried to create a main female character who was not slave to her genitals, and who tried to have at least some kind of common sense about herself. Buy this book if it is extremely cheap. Otherwise, check it out from the library first. I recommend GFDH one and two over three.
Lastly, I am compelled to say that, although Brooklyn's Finest was the best of the three stories, the two female characters' lack of intelligence, self-respect and conscience was absurd and despicable. I could not ignore that fact and found it hard to cheer for them. The mother character, however, I felt sympathy for. KW could have just wrote a story about her and left those two chickenheads out.

Well I gave this book 2 stars. I was sort of let down by this book and was expecting more! the first two stories Brooklyn's Finest and Snake to Snitch was ok. But I was'nt feeling Star Quality at all it started off all slow and the ending still was bad. Hopefully the 4th installment will be better. Hopefully they'll let Nikki Turner add to the next series again!

The stories in this book were okay. However, just like other reviewers of this book, I didn't care for "Star Quality" too much though. It was missing the drama and the intensity of the 1st and possibly 2nd story. Its seemed as if the plot was all over the place, definitely could have been a better read. I liked the 1st two stories...they were worth the time but Star Quality needed a bit more pizzaz...Walk don't run to the bookstore or library. Nice read, but not great.

Only the last story held my interest, finally we know what happen to Unique. To tell the truth, I can't remember much about the other stories, but that what you get when it's complied by different authors. However, the first two books were excellent.
