Girls just wanna have fun?,
By Amaranth "music fan" (Northern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (MP3 Download)
Cover songs are always interesting; it's an opportunity to listen to a fresh take on something tried and true. Miley Cyrus,a.k.a. Hannah Montana, decides to be "daring" and cover Cyndi Lauper's '80s hit "Girls just wanna have fun." Is it any fun? Alas, not really.
In the original,Cyndi Lauper was a party girl. Miley Cyrus sounds bland and blase. Her voice is overly synthesized, the whole song is overproduced, and the overwhelming orchestration can't cover the lack of passion in her delivery. Cyrus sounds as if she's singing the Rancho Cucamonga phonebook; she might as well be singing about getting a facial. The only moment she has any sincerity is when she sings "dad, you're still #1." Miley Cyrus' "See you again" was a fun guilty pleasure... but her take on Cyndi Lauper is bland&boring. She might have more luck covering the oeuvre of Madonna, such as "Material Girl." When it comes to covers, Cyrus isn't covered.

My achy breaky heart.,
By Stefan Crane "Stefan Crane" (CA USA) - See all my reviews

I listened to the whole track. Trying to find some element of entertainment value: didn't happen. Cyndi Lauper's version, although she didn't write the track, shines way above anything this teeny-bopper could put out. The instrumentation is horrid as well. I simply cannot believe that the powers at Disney decide to back this stuff. I know it's a business, but it's a business of art, this girl is no artist.

Doesn't Feel Like Fun,
By Michael Kerner "Michael Kerner" (Brooklyn, New York U.S.A.) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE)

Honestly, for Miley Cyrus, she has shown to have a promising career that has a lot of diversity with her character Hannah Montana. However, for her to make a name for her own self as a singer is really been a lot harder than meets the eye. Her latest single doesn't really show that Miley is not as strong with making cover songs all her own either. Her rendidition of Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, the second single from her album Breakout, feels like it is just a waste of listening. I really was very dissapointed with the feeling of the song, because it doesn't capture the joy that Cyndi shows and made the song for over 25 years. I wasn't very amused with the song, and it feels like it is just something for the tween market, rather than something for everyone, just like her last single, 7 Things. If Miley is really going to make it on her own, she needs to be more than just a tween, and that is even beyond what the 7 things she had before.
Song: F+
