5.0 out of 5 stars The Best
I have been getting this magazine for 3 years and with every issue it has gotten better. It is the best magizine for girls 8-20. There are embarrasing moments, help pages, books, website, and movie reviews, upcomeing books and movies. My favorite section is the beauty section. There is also a letter from Karen(an employee) in every issue. Also there are stories from...

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Girls' Life Magazine (Magazine)
Girl's Life used to be a wonderful magazine, with articles that were helpful and fun. However, lately Girl's Life has been turning the focus of the magazine from the helpful and fun side of you to the gossipy and fashion-obsessed side of you. Their latest issue has been the worst. There was a three-page article on how to give the perfect kiss! Along with that was an equally long article on how to get the "perfect look" and three quizzes, which would normally have been okay but these ones were stupid. What really gets me is that on their website, they have a question of the week, and one week's question was, "Do you think girls ages 12-15 should be kissing?" (The question, of course, was based on angry calls from parents about the kissing article.) That wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that they say Girl's Life is for girls ages 10-15, not 12-15! If you can stand the gossipy articles, then you can keep on subscribing, but otherwise I would suggest that you cancel your subscription and try American Girl, Discovery Girls, or New Moon.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too inappropriate!, January 14, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Girls' Life Magazine (Magazine)
I think GIRLS' LIFE is a very inappropriate magazine for girls ages 10-14. I am an 18-year-old girl, and I was flipping through a recent issue of this magazine and found it to be way inappropriate. Some of the stuff they talked about was okay for girls in that age level, but most of it was for older teens! I saw some of the fashion clothes that they advertised in the magazine, and all I can say is: "What parent in their right mind would allow their 10 to 14-year-old girls wear those kind of clothes?!". Now, don't get me wrong, I have an 11-year-old sister. But some of the clothes I see her wear are so inappropriate, from my point of view at least!

They also give a lot of advice about guys, dating, crushes, etc. And it's like, jeeze! You guys shouldn't even be DATING yet, let alone wondering how you can get your first kiss! I was reading a bunch of the help questions and help advice from the readers of this magazine, and I found some certain questions that they shouldn't be concerned about or shouldn't be asking about. I know, I know. Girls have to grow up sometime. And trust me, you will. But you don't need inappropriate magazines like GIRLS' LIFE to help you grow up and mature!

The reason why I gave this magazine 2 stars instead of just 1 is because I found the celebrity stuff to be okay and appropriate, but the rest of it is not! I can't believe parents are letting their 10-year-old girls read this junk! Don't they know what's in here?!

I suggest that you do not let your daughters subscribe to GIRLS' LIFE magazine until you take a moment or two and read an issue yourself and then make the decision whether it is appropriate or not for your child!

3.0 out of 5 stars For the Girly Girl Only, May 13, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Girls' Life Magazine (Magazine)
I subscribed to this magazine because it looked good-it had won the Parent's Choice Award, and it was ages 10-15. I've only gotten about 3 issues of it, and I don't like it. Most of the articles about crushes and fashion and dating, and the magazine usually displays parents (or should I say the "rents") as bad guys! Some parts are good, like GL Fun and Short Stuff. But I'd have to say that this magazine doesn't talk too much about sports and crafts and other stuff that girls like. If you're a girly kind of girl that's obsessed with boys and fashion, then you'll LOVE Girl's Life. Otherwise, skip it.

1.0 out of 5 stars change the age range for this magazine !!!!, November 17, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Girls' Life Magazine (Magazine)
I was looking for a magazine for my niece who is 11...I have boys...so this was fun and difficult at the same time...I was reading the articles...some are great and appropriate for ages 14,15 ....but for 10 , 11, even 12...I personally would say absolutely not....I am all for the latest fashion...which they do have in the magazine and for "girl talk" ..but when I read some of these things, all I could think is ...these girls are focusing too much on boys, boobs, and kissing for 10 and 11 year olds...does her mom want this? Is this what all the girls this age are focusing on? their articles on celebs was good..but not enough substance for me to say this is a good buy...****they should change the age range for this magazine*****...I am so far from being prude...but this is overboard for GIRLS...but ok for young ladies !!!

1.0 out of 5 stars For older Girls, October 2, 2002

I got this magazine for my daughter when she was ten because it said for girls 10 to 15 yrs old. I found out that the articles are for older girls dealing with issues like dating and boyfriends. Also it goes into alot of detail on wearing makeup and older fashion. It is sad when there is not a magazine out there for girls who are to old for American Girl but not old enough for the next level.

Also another one of my favorite parts of this magizine is how they have at least 5 contests in an issue. There are writing contests and raffles. They are good prizes also like a camera, leather jaket, a grease program signed by the cast and soooooooooooo much more. I definatly recomend this to any girl! it is the BEST!!!!!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Inappropriate Magazine, December 18, 2006
This review is from: Girls' Life Magazine (Magazine)
I'll have to say, I am very surprised at the content in this magazine. I got it through a school fundraiser for my 13 year old daughter, and when I asked her if I could see it, she was embarassed but still handed me the magazine. The first 20-40 pages are all about boys, kissing, and how to "deal" with your parents. There wasn't one article that was useful.

They were either about celebs, "does HE like you?", living with alcoholism, how to get cool guys, and fashion. The only worth-while article was the one about how to manage your money. The advice in this magazine is also dull, and it doesn't apparently work in real life. There isn't ONE article that talks about grades, or how to NOT be boy-crazy. I actually chose this over "Teen Vogue" the magazine my daughter wanted to get, but I regret having getting ANY magazine for her (except American Girl and Discovery Girl which my daughter thought were too "childish"). Oh, yeah, and did I mention they don't HAVE ANY AFFORDABLE clothing styles. Don't you think that's kind of ironic? I mean, first, they ask you to save money, and not spend too much, then they splash these glamourous photos of these girls wearing [...] dresses!

What is this? They don't talk about being more friendly, or being more modest, or any VALUES! They don't talk about how to overcome embarassment, and the pages are FILLED with desperate girls asking how to "get a boyfriend."

What IS THIS! If you are a concerned parent, don't get this magazine for ANY KID OF ANY AGE! Overall, I gave this magazine 2 stars, only because the fashions were sophisticated and SOME of the advice was good.

2.0 out of 5 stars times are a changin', May 12, 2007
This review is from: Girls' Life Magazine (Magazine)
Thinking back i only have fond memories of when i spent my summers laying on the lawn in my backyard reading this magazine when i was 11-12. I'm 21 now and one night when i had to baby sit my 10 yr old cousin she had this magazine. I hadn't read a girls life mag since i was 13, so i flipped through it and was surprised at the change in content. Instead of having real girls on the cover its all these prettied up disney stars, and about how to look hot at a party, how to get a boyfriend , etc. What happened the days when it was about the top ten movies for a sleepover, or how to have a fun filled summer, or reviews on the latest toys, hair and beauty products, books or gadgets. I'm sure they still have some that, and even though I can't put all the blame on the mag, they could just be reflecting and following the changing times. But still...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not approrpriate for 9-14 year old girls, February 15, 2008

txjayhwk (Dallas, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Girls' Life Magazine (Magazine)
I've just cancelled my 12 year old daughter's subscription. Their marketing materials state this is an appropriate magazine for young girls ages 9-14, yet a recent issue had a large feature article on teenage pregnancy as well as articles on the cast of Gossip Girl. Have you seen this show? My daughter certainly hasn't as it deals with high schoolers having sexual relationships with multiple partners, underage drinking, 14 year olds in night clubs, suicide, drugs...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for young girls, December 6, 2004
This review is from: Girls' Life Magazine (Magazine)
I subscribed to this magazine, sight unseen, for my daughter who will be ten soon, thinking it would be a safe alternative to the teen magazines. Big mistake! I thought it was aimed at the "Tween" crowd. But with the advice column letter from a girl asking whether she should lose her virginity to her boyfriend before her family moves away I see I was very wrong. The editors need to figure out once and for all who their target market is. All of the articles on boys are way too much for 4th and 5th graders, and from the comments I have seen from older girls, they think the magazine is lame and for younger girls.
