This review is from: Boys and Girls Playing and Other Addresses to Young Children: And Other Addresses to Children / by John Charles Ryle (Family Titles) (Hardcover)
This is truly a wonderful book for young children. JC Ryle has a wonderful way of speaking to children and reaching their heart for Christ. I wish I could find more books of this caliber for my children.

I would recommend this book for all children up to about 11 years old.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wisdom for young people on the important things of life, April 2, 2007
This review is from: Boys and Girls Playing and Other Addresses to Young Children: And Other Addresses to Children / by John Charles Ryle (Family Titles) (Hardcover)
A wonderful collection of short "sermons" delivered by Bishop Ryle to the children of his congregation. The book contains eight short stories that drive home the point to children that their actions reflect their values - Bishop Ryle encourages them to walk in a manner worthy of their calling and to conduct themselves with honor and integrity. He uses Proverbs 20:11 several times in the book which reads, "Even a child is known by his conduct." Ryle encourages young people to be diligent in their work, kind with their words, respectful of others and constantly pursuing God through the reading of Scripture. The writing has that strong and unmistakable Puritan feel to it - Ryle has high expectations for what young people can actually understand and do with their lives.

The book is printed with larger type so that little ones can actually read this book on their own - most likely a second or third grader could handle most of the verbiage and ideas in these little vignettes. The book has no illustrations, only text, which might make reading it a little more arduous for today's children. Parent should be encouraged to read this book to their children, for the parents themselves will benefit from the wisdom of Ryle in each story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Boys & Girls Playing, August 4, 2009
This review is from: Boys and Girls Playing and Other Addresses to Young Children: And Other Addresses to Children / by John Charles Ryle (Family Titles) (Hardcover)
This is a Christian book on sermons which JC Ryle preached to children over 100 years ago. It is in the usual style of JC Ryle which I personally love - he is direct yet compassionate in his approach. Great for devotions. Wish there were more books like it!
