This is NOT a dangerous book!, September 5, 2006
This review is from: Girls and Sex (Hardcover)
Firstly, this book was in the Top 100 ALA Most Challenged Books of 1990-2000, which is an excellent reason to purchase this book. Why? Because without good education, teens can and will fall into sexual disfunction: hang-ups, lack of protection from STDs, misinformation, prejudices etc. Secondly, there are no illustrations that are offensive even to a Pentecostal. The text is not titillating, nor does it condone sexual promescuity. Indeed, warnings abound, but they're informed warnings. This is not a dangerous book and is a very important and valuable addition to any teen library: trust me...I'm a librarian for teens. If you take anything away from this review, take this question: Do you want your kids to be able to make informed decisions or do you want them to be sexually dysfunctional?

Great Book, served me well, November 4, 2008
This review is from: Girls and Sex (Hardcover)
I found out about this book when I was 14, how? Because it was one of the books my parents gave me to read, to educate myself about sex and everything it involves. I don't remember too many details about the book today (15 years later). But I do know that it was packed full of things I wouldn't have asked my parents or even thought about asking until I was stuck in a situation. I don't remember there being erotic pictures or anything outrageous for a young girl to be reading. It's a good book to give to your daughter when you feel it's time she learn about sex. It surely kept me from getting into trouble when it came to sex and sexual subjects.
