Weird songs! But Swan Match is beautiful,

This review is from: Girls in Space: Beats That Are Out of World (Audio CD)
This album has some weird stuff on it! Mind Mover has synthetic chords moving up chromatically repeatedly. New Highs has alternating fifths and fourths moving downward repeatedly. Poetic Solitude must be the weirdest of the bunch. It has alarming vibrating sounds in the background and what sounds like sloshing in techno mud in the foreground. These are good if you want some weird sounds; for example, for introducing aliens on stage.Swan Match is the best on this album. It is about the closest that I have heard of putting a candle flame down on music. It features a shimmering chord that to me reminds me of the radiance of a candle shining in all directions. It has some reverberating, as though the candle were flickering in a breeze. After going into the song, a beat appears and you can dance to the flame. It is one of the most beautiful songs I have heard. Unfortunately, I can't find too many references or other pieces too easily for these artists, all of whom are women. Aquavee (Swan Match) and Neotropic (Poetic Solitude) have a few on their MySpace sites. Weird and beautiful - give this one a 5.
