Volleyball is for everyone according to Schwartz. There is lots of fun to be had whether in the gym or on the beach, for competition or community. The ultimate goal for her readers, though, is Olympic level play, and the text maintains a serious competitive tone. She describes both rally and side-out scoring, and gives detailed attention to the five basic skills required for players in any game: serving, setting, spiking, blocking, and passing. Summers are for volleyball camp and High Performance programs, and training begins weeks before volleyball season. There are several pro players showcased who embody strength and beauty, especially glamorous Gabrielle Reece who advises strong, tall girls to Stand up straight. This high interest book concludes with a glossary and an index. It also includes a short bibliography of related reading. This is more of a story book than an information book. Not a book for you if you are looking for ways to coach girls. Would be good for girls who are starting to look into playing volleyball. I was disappointed.
