Book Description

April 1, 2006
Yes the rumours are true...I'm actually coming home to Colorado for the summer. Maybe it won't be so bad. After all, I've got cocktails, shopping, and gab sessions with my girlfriends to look forward to. Plus time with my dysfunctional family. Yippee. I'm Helaina, by the way. Helaina Denner if you've known me since junior high, like Hannah and Marti. Helaina Merrill if you know me from film school at NYU. See, I lead a bit of a double life: "starving" student when in Manhattan, daughter of privilege when in Denver...depending on your definition of "better." First off, I've picked this time to try and reconnect with my father. Which would be easier if we'd ever had anything resembling a relationship to begin with. I guess this is one of the pitfalls of having a parent as rich as Bill Gates and as accessible as the Pope...like what I'll tell you about Owen, the adorable journalist I just met. He's sweet, sincere, sexy...real soul mate material. But something's keeping me from letting him get too close. What's my problem, anyway? No need to answer: that's what friends are for. Now, amid high-altitude parties in Aspen, bikini waxes gone mad, and caught-on-tape blackmail fodder, I'm about to find out exactly what one heiress's problems amount to in this crazy world. Just remember, whatever I discover is off the record - for the moment, at least...

Review

"Reminiscent of Bridget Jones's Diary and Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, Alan's is a novel to be savored like a good box of chocolates."

5.0 out of 5 stars Chick Lit At Its Best!, April 13, 2006
This review is from: Girls Who Gossip (Paperback)
Theresa Alan does it again with a chick lit that has a surprising twist. Deeper and more thought provoking than traditional chick lit, GIRLS WHO GOSSIP still has Alan's trademark humor and wit. Helaina is a heroine any woman can relate to and Owen is to die for.

The reader follows Helaina on a soul-searching journey that reveals her inner strength. You root for her and cheer her on the whole time. I couldn't recommend this book enough!

This review is from: Girls Who Gossip (Paperback)
As a fan of "Chick Lit", I'm always looking for good story to escape into. A friend had mentioned that Theresa Alan was her favorite author, so I found this book. I must admit that I was put off by the cover. Is this a young adult book?

Well, I decided to trust my friend's recommendation and bought the book. I'm happy to report that Theresa Alan's sharp wit and insightful writing sucked me in. The great characters and clever plot make this book a must read!

I think this is Theresa's best book since who you know. It's suspenseful, witty, funny, clever, and very well written. I particularly like the last eighty or so pages. The characters and the story have depth. It's fast paced and fun.
