Chick Lit At Its Best!,
By
This review is from: Girls Who Gossip (Paperback)
Theresa Alan does it again with a chick lit that has a surprising twist. Deeper and more thought provoking than traditional chick lit, GIRLS WHO GOSSIP still has Alan's trademark humor and wit. Helaina is a heroine any woman can relate to and Owen is to die for.
The reader follows Helaina on a soul-searching journey that reveals her inner strength. You root for her and cheer her on the whole time. I couldn't recommend this book enough!

As a fan of "Chick Lit", I'm always looking for good story to escape into. A friend had mentioned that Theresa Alan was her favorite author, so I found this book. I must admit that I was put off by the cover. Is this a young adult book?
Well, I decided to trust my friend's recommendation and bought the book. I'm happy to report that Theresa Alan's sharp wit and insightful writing sucked me in. The great characters and clever plot make this book a must read!

I think this is Theresa's best book since who you know. It's suspenseful, witty, funny, clever, and very well written. I particularly like the last eighty or so pages. The characters and the story have depth. It's fast paced and fun.

deep character study,
This review is from: Girls Who Gossip (Paperback)
Helaina Denner mourns the death of her beloved mom when she decides to end the estrangement and reconcile with her wealthy dad because she needs family at this moment. Thus she travels to Colorado where she tries to hide her feeling of appall from her aloof father and her aunt, who are having an open affair while the relative who connected to both of them lies warm in her grave.
Unable to cope Helaina turns to alcohol, but that only leaves hangovers. Her friends feel for her but she detests the pity she senses behind their sympathy. She knows she must find closure with her mother's sudden mysterious death and move past her rage at her dad and aunt for desecrating her mom. Helaina finds some solace with poet Owen, who helps her inch closer to emotional harmony, but the weights on her back make progress seem snail-like. GIRLS WHO GOSSIP is a deep character study of a despondent grieving young woman feeling all alone since her mother died trying to connect with her father, but makes no progress on that front, which in turn depresses her further. Helaina's relationship with Owen seems very realistic with its ups and downs as both have problems, but the emotionally battered female finds herself in the crosshairs of needing and wanting a loving relationship but fearing to embrace one as love hurts. Fans of contemporary fiction will want to read this strong insightful tale. Harriet Klausner

Loved It!,

I've been a Theresa Alan fan since "Who You Know" helped pioneer Chick Lit as a genre. In her latest triumph, Alan takes the us on a fun and inventive adventure composed of lies, adultry, and revenge. BRAVO!

Great book!,

I have been saving Girls Who Gossip for a rainy day but it is a beautiful 70 degree day and I can't put it down to get out of bed. I finally stopped reading because I had an overwhelming urge to eat popcorn, a craving I only get when I am in the middle of a good movie. I have read all of Theresa Alan's books and this one is turning into my favorite. I think it has a Hamlet flare to it. It has dark thoughts but it also has the sweetness of new relationships. It is a great book so far. I am almost done but I had to get out of bed and get some work done.

Pick up.,
By Little D (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Girls Who Gossip (Paperback)
I've read Theresa Alan's other books and some were okay and one I really enjoyed. I was hoping that this would be one of the better books she's written. I was wrong. It was an alright book. At about half way through I was hoping it would get more interesting or that something would happen to move the book along. I just found that I couldn't relate to any of the characters or any of the situations that were happening. With that said, I say pass this book up and wait for the next which may or may not be better.

This is one of Theresa's best books yet. It's clever, touching and well written. She reveals a new darkness and depth in her writing that really pulled me in. By the time I hit the middle of the book, I couldn't put it down-I had to find out how Helaina enacted her revenge! I was especially moved by the relationship with her deceased mother, and by the end was in tears. It's a rare book that can move me so much!
