Now I am not that granola and am not good in the kitchen but this yogurt maker is awesome. I got it so I can make yogurt for my baby but now I eat yogurt everyday. This machine is so simple. All you have to do is add starter and milk and plug it in. Much better than the rest THERE IS NO BOILING REQUIRED IT DOES ALL THE WORK. and the glass versus plastic jars in the other brands make it 1,000,0000000,0000000 times better. You can't buy a better product.

Perfect homemade yogurt...yummmmm!,

There are many methods for making yogurt and keeping it at the proper temperature for long periods of time (wrapping in towels, setting in oven with pilot light, throwing into a thermos wrapped in a blanket, etc.) to properly set it up, but I wasn't too thrilled with the idea of tempting the yogurt fates. This is a nice unit where the temperature is constant and no guessing games to fool the yogurt bacteria. It includes 7 glass jars, which I prefer over plastic. My first attempt (with the recipe using nonfat dry milk included in the box) turned out miserably. I tried again using nonfat milk from the dairy case and it was a great success. I left it overnight for a 10 hour period and it set up well after another couple of hours refrigerated. Added a bit of maple syrup and granola and it was wonderful. The best part of the recipe is that there is no need to boil the milk; just use it straight from the fridge. Every recipe I've looked at requires you to boil the milk first and then let it come back down to 110 degrees. Well worth the price with Amazon's free shipping policy. A quart of yogurt anytime you want it for about $0.50. And made with trusted ingredients!

Works as promised!,

You get seven glass containers each 6 oz each. This give the yogurt maker a 42 oz capacity. I prefer this to the large quart size yogurt makers because I can and usually do make different flavors of yogurt in the same batch. Making your own yogurt with the maker is easy, healthy, and it tastes better then store bought yogurt. There is no boiling required if you use pasteurized milk, and you can use plain yogurt with live and active cultures as the starter. Once you have some yogurt going, you can use your own plain yogurt as the starter. Once you mix up a quart of milk and 5 tablespoons of yogurt starter, you simply fill your 6 jars, set it in the maker, cover with dome shaped plastic lid, plug it in, and come back 6-10 hours later. Cap the jars with their small plastic lids, place in fridge for several hours to set and you're done. After you have made some plain yogurt, you can get some cheese cloth and make yogurt cheese. Use this to replace cream cheese on a bagel or even make a yogurt cheese cake! The machine works great.

I never thought I'd be writing a review for a yogurt maker. I never thought I would come to love plain yogurt. But - while reading "French Women Don't Get Fat" - I decided to give it a try. And -- you know what -- those French women are on to something! Homemade plain yogurt tastes great (I add a little honey) and the Girmi makes it so easy to make. And I've lost 5 pounds in 2 1/2 weeks! So - five stars from me for both the book and this yogurt maker with its charming little glass cups.
{One thing: I did have to experiment a bit with the cooking time - 10 hours gets me the firmer consistency I like. And you really do have to let it sit in the refrigerator for a few hours.}

Simply The Best & Freshest Yogurt I've Ever Had,
By
This review is from: Girmi JC70 Yogurt Maker (Kitchen)
I have always enjoyed eating yogurt, but had never tried homemade yogurt until purchasing a Girmi JC70 Yogurt Maker. By using organic milk and following its simple instructions, we have consistently made the best and freshest tasting yogurt that we have ever had. Instead of spending money on purchasing pre-made yogurt at the store that is filled with preservatives and who knows what else, as well as having sat on a shelf for an unknown amount of time, we'd much rather make our own and know exactly what is in it using only organic ingredients and be able to eat it as soon as we chill it only hours after it's been made.
Therefore, for ease of use, low cost and only a small amount of required storage space, I whole-heartedly rate the Girmi JC70 Yogurt Maker with a resounding 5 out of 5 stars. We also purchased an extra set of yogurt containers so that we make more yogurt of different varieties more quickly. If you're on a low-carb diet or prefer to eat organic foods, the Girmi JC70 Yogurt Maker is definitely worth having.

This yogurt maker is great. Years (and years) ago I had a Salton one. You had to heat the milk, check temperatures..lots of work.
The Girmi (ok, weird name..) is easy as can be. I bought half & half, used a few spoons of natural yogurt. You just mix them together well. I used a whisk. And then poured it in the the jars. One quart just fills all of the jars. You put the cover on, but not the jar covers. I plugged it in and 10 hours later it was beautiful, thick yogurt. I popped the tops on and put them in the fridge to set a bit. Delicious yogurt and what could be easier. I do wish that the jar tops screwed on well so that they would be easier to take to work but it there are a nice quality heavy glass. I'm probably going to order another set. I highly recommend this product. Good price and good results.

Great yogurt... if you know the tricks,

I bought this yogurt maker several months ago, and was frustrated with watery yogurt. I tried boiling the milk. I tried different brands of yogurt as starter. I even tried different brands of milk, even organic milk. Nothing worked, and I was frustrated that I needed to search for plain yogurt as starter each time I wanted to make yogurt. I bought a machine like this so I would not have to buy yogurt all the time.
Now I love it. The two tricks: 1) Add 3 tbs milk powder to the recipe. It sets up like nothing and tastes better to boot. Milk powder last years and costs next to nothing. 2) Buy a quart of plain yogurt and freeze it in ice cube trays. Store the cubes in the freezer and use for starter. They last months (so far) in the freezer. Too bad these tricks are not in the instructions. It would have saved me headaches and earned it more stars.

Fabulous ... and so easy!,

Okay, so I'm not a fan of plain yogurt but with this wonderful yogurt maker you don't have to be. The first batch I made was perfect! I used fat free skim milk so the yogurt was a bit on the thin side, but what do you expect for fat free! After the jars cooled and set up I added sweetner and a teaspoon of lime juice to one of the containers and had terrific lime yogurt. In another jar I added sweetner and some dark chocolate syrup (which is fat free!) and had chocolate yogurt. Tonight I will try raspberry perserves. The possibilities of flavors are endless.
This machine really is easy to use. Basically plug it in and forget it for 12 hours. NO CLEANUP!! Big plus! I am very pleased with this purchase!

Best Yogurt maker ever,
This review is from: Girmi JC70 Yogurt Maker (Kitchen)
I have been using this yogurt maker for about 2 years. Never a failed batch. Suggest when using skim milk, as I do, to add 1/2 cup of dried milk to it after you add the yogurt. This makes for creamy yogurt every time.

Coldn't be happier with this EASY tool,

I have had my yogurt maker now for a couple weeks and just love it. I was fed up trying to find whole milk yogurt in the store, not to mention something that didn't have an awful after-taste and had less preservatives so I bought my own. I found the perfect way to sweeten naturally by putting a little bit of a preserve (black cherry lately) and a tiny bit of raw honey and I am having the best yogurt I have had in my life.
Some people will be put off by the consistency that the yogurt will have but this is Euro-style yogurt, not what Americans are used to, but rest assured your body will like it better. LOVE IT!! |
