5.0 out of 5 stars Very good steamer
This is a very good steamer. It is easy to use and to clean and the stainless steel trays are very good. You can do about everything with it. The size is perfect for a family of 3 to 5. I would buy it again.

2.0 out of 5 stars BEWARE... Quality was lacking.... picture did not match product!
I was disappointed when I received this steamer. The most glaring thing wrong was that the picture on the box showed three stainless steel racks - supposedly two for steaming and one for poaching. What was actually enclosed was one for steaming and one for poaching and a disclaimer in the box that says the picture in the guide doesn't match the product. The picture on...

The picture on the box and the box contents don't match either!!

This unit is also made of plastic, which would not be my preference for steaming food. I was educated as a biochemist and I would prefer that science know a lot more about plastics and high temperatures before mixing steam with plastic in cooking. Some new studies on Teflon make this point, unfortunately we didn't know more when everyone was using Teflon. I also found the handles to be flimsy.

I got a bamboo steamer from China town that was easier to use and did just as good a job. It was inexpensive, but admittedly it is nice to have something dishwater safe.

If you do a search under this product name, you will notice there is another product with the SAME model number priced at twice the cost, which talks about the elusive third tray. Maybe this is what should have been in my box? Either way, it seems like the company is having some difficulty getting their problems to market with accurate information.

While this is an OK product, I feel the company misrepresented it including in more than one picture on the box. Apparently they are aware of what they are doing because they include a big disclaimer INSIDE of the box. In all fairness, the product is a pretty good steamer, but there are similar ones out there for about the same cost.

I wrote to Girmi about the issue above and they looked into it and communicated all along the way. They were a bit slow in responding, but they cheerfully took care of the problem. My guess is they will also straighten out the confusion around the boxes they use for products, how they present them online, etc.

This product has only two racks, takes 30 minutes to start steaming, and the timer cannot be decreased or stopped after it has been set, so if you set it for 45 minutes but then realize your food might be ready after 40 minutes, your only recourse is to pull the power cord or take the food out of the very hot steamer. I threw this product out after 2 days.
