Product Description

Offering alpine-inspired design and chinbar compatible, this sleek ski helmet features a full-coverage hardshell with padded earflaps to protect against run-ins with racing gates and tree branches. The helmet's in-mold construction a tough polycarbonate outer shell fused to an EPS (expanded polystyrene) liner reinforces both materials. Aerodynamic Racing Covers lock in place to provide aerodynamic efficiency during a race and to hold in heat as temperatures drop. A passive ventilation system circulates cool air through the helmet and allows excess body heat to escape from seven vents. The cut creates a gapless fit with goggles and doesn't compromise peripheral vision. A security loop and Giro's Goggle Notch lock goggles to helmet.

The helmet comes in extra-small, small, medium, large, extra-large, and extra-extra large sizes. Depending on size, it weighs approximately 19.5 ounces. An extra-small helmet fits a head with a circumference of 20.5 inches to 21 inches. A small helmet fits a head with a circumference of 21 inches to 22 inches. A medium helmet fits a head with a circumference of 22 inches to 22.5 inches. A large helmet fits a head with a circumference of 22.5 inches to 23.25 inches. An extra-large helmet fits a head with a circumference of 23.25 inches to 23.75 inches. An extra-extra-large helmet fits a head with a circumference of 23.75 inches to 24.5 inches.

About Giro
Working late nights in his garage, designer/bike racer Jim Gentes created the first lightweight adult cycling helmet in 1985. Friends at NASA helped tune the final helmet shape and vent placement, and the result was the Giro Prolight, a helmet that was better looking than traditional designs while offering a superior fit and still met the industry's toughest safety standards. Plus, it was half the weight of traditional helmets. Since then, Giro has advanced its helmets, many of which have set the standards for styling, function, and innovation for progressive, performance-oriented riders on dirt, pavement, and snow. Giro helmets are worn by millions of riders, cyclists, skiers, and snowboarders around the world. Young-bloods and old-timers; hard-cores, heshers, and hipsters; rookies, experts, and a few regular Joes too--in fact, pretty much anyone that appreciates superior fit and function, cutting edge styling, and the very best ideas you get in a helmet.

4.0 out of 5 stars almost a 5 star helmet, January 28, 2009

This review is from: Giro Talon Snow Helmet (Sports)
let me start by saying im a huge giro fan, ive always worn giro. Whether it was on my skate board as a kid, or more recently when im out on my road bike.

My first ski helmet purchase was the giro 9, i didnt like the way it looked on me so i returned it and upgraded to the giro talon. The talon is a slick looking helmet, Nice paint job and great lines. I love the removable vent covers for when the warmer weather gets here.

I have only 2 complaints about the helmet, one of them isnt even a major issues.

issue 1 - the helmet seems to bow out a bit right at eye level which leaves an opening for wind to come right in, now on days when its 20 and above its no big deal but any colder and your ears start to feel it. I solved this problem by buying an under armor skull cap which fits very tight to my head and solves the problem nicely

issue 2 - (this was a huge issue) The goggle strap in the back doesn't fasten to the helemt as it did on the giro 9. I dont understand this, the talon was 50$ more than the 9 yet it comes with an inferior goggle strap clip. on the giro 9 it has a button that allows you to make sure your goggles dont go anywhere. this really casued a problem the first weekend out as i took my goggles off for a moment on the lift and when i tried to put them back on the flew off the helmet and out of my hands and i had to ride down to get them. Then this past weekend i took off the helmet and was carrying it by the chin strap, they must have fallen off when i didnt notice. HAd it had a button on the clip this would have never have happened. 100$ goggles gone.

other than that this helmet is tops, ill be sure to keep an eye on my goggles from now on
