5.0 out of 5 stars excellent helmet
This is a very comfortable helmet with a nice fit. Most of the helmets you'll find in this price range don't fit well. Believe me, I've tried a number of them. But this one fits me great.

One small piece of advice: It has a more rounded appearance from the front than most bike helmets do. So if you don't like the thought of a "round" look when someone's...

3.0 out of 5 stars One size fits most
I needed a helmet after mine cracked from a road impact so I chose this model. However, my former 2006 Bell Furio fit me well and was offered in 3 size ranges (and cost more). This helmet somehow manages to align a hard spot toward the back with my skull. It seems to be the shaping, and the old helmet had the hard shell ever so slightly spaced from my head. I used the...

One small piece of advice: It has a more rounded appearance from the front than most bike helmets do. So if you don't like the thought of a "round" look when someone's looking at you straight on, this might not be the helmet for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Giro Helmet with "bang for your buck" pricing!!!, January 15, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Hello everyone. Hope you all had wonderful holidays.

I'm a weekend road bike warrior riding between 45-80km/week on various road terrains and sometimes amateurly racing on a Specialized S-Works frame, LOOK carbon fork, Spinergy wheels, Shimano 105 components, Alanera carbon handlebars, CF02 carbon seat post, Bontrager RL Inform seat, etc., etc...I'm an experience amateur riding bikes for about 15 years now every chance I get. A few weeks ago, my old helmet was stolen (curse those theives!), and so I was in the market for a new one, but the economy being as it is, I didn't feel like spending a lot of money for a hobbie, so I thought I'd try this helmet. Also, my wife recently wanted to road bike also, transitioning from mountain biking, so I got her one also for Xmas. Now on to the helmet...

The Giro Transfer helmet is quite a nice helmet and is really priced to move. Amazon was pretty speedy in getting the helmet delivered too. I ordered the helmet on 12th and received it on the 18th of December, just in time for the weekend amateur road race. It came well packed in a Giro box inside an Amazon box.

That being said, I was impressed with the light weight of the helmet, as well as the universal fit adjusting system in the back of the helmet/head. Most helmets of this price category use a type of adjustment system that involves the sliding of straps and the placement of strap clamps to somewhat more-or-less properly adjust your helmet. I've never gotten a comfy fit from those systems. This helmet, however, has a dial mechanism that adjusts the helmet to your head much better than any helmet I've seen in this price category. Giro did well to put this mechanism on the helmet, as it's much less complicated than having to readjust the straps one way, then another, etc., as with the sliding systems. You usually find this mechanism on higher priced helmets.

As for the looks and riding coolness (temperature) of the helmet, many cycling partners were impressed with its look and design and the amount of air ducts it has. The helmet is quite comfortable, light and cool on the road, and I road bike in an area where at 7am, it's already 86+ F, warm, humid & tropical.

Although I hope to never find out, the helmet is quite compact and rigid and tough, and I feel quite secure wearing it. In fact, I feel so secure, I'm a bit more daring on some curves, especially those where I'm leading the group. With Giro's reputation, I'm sure it would hold up well if I were to have a fall. Let's just pray I don't.

Ok, that's it, hope this has helped you in your decision while looking for a road bike helmet. Take care.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fit, great price, November 10, 2006

I really like this helmet. It's from a name brand company who has made many contributions to the innovation of bicycling helmets. It fits well - it has the "dial" fit system (every helmet company has their own name for it). It's easy to adjust, comfortable, comes with extra padding (I guess in case your head doesn't fit perfectly). It's one size fits all.

It didn't come with a visor and I do not see an option for one. I guess just get some sunglasses. The helmet is very compact and very light. Amazing value.

What a great price for a helmet, they are required where I live, and they make me feel safer, and there are no frills to this one. Yes, I do not look cool wearing a helmet but at least I didn't spend $60 because I was insecure about it!!! I think the helmet is designed for a normal sized to larger sized male head, based on how well it fit mine. I hope I never have to find out how good this helmet really is, but it gets good safety reviews if you search it on google. Bell helmets also get good reviews, but are more expensive and "designer."

3.0 out of 5 stars One size fits most, June 15, 2008

I needed a helmet after mine cracked from a road impact so I chose this model. However, my former 2006 Bell Furio fit me well and was offered in 3 size ranges (and cost more). This helmet somehow manages to align a hard spot toward the back with my skull. It seems to be the shaping, and the old helmet had the hard shell ever so slightly spaced from my head. I used the pads supplied with the Giro Transfer to help avoid this contact and adjusted as much as possible, but if the padding of my hair thins any more things could get uncomfortable. Best to try on before buying. PS - Added some stategically placed pads and got along until this helmet was pressed to save my head in an MTB crash - and that it did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great first helmet, October 17, 2007
I usually don't like wearing helmets when I ride my bike but considering the risks, I've changed my tune and now think that it's wise to do so.

Having said that, I found this helmet at Dick's but thought that I can get a better deal at Amazon which I did. Great delivery etc. and the helmet fits well and has a nice neutral look to it.

on the fence? Buy it, you're not going to be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent helmet for $20., November 21, 2007

I really like the adjustable fitting knob; it is easily accessible and helps a snug fit. Only complaint is that the helmet is a bit wedge-shaped laterally in the rear; it is probably good for the aero-dynamics, but it makes it hard to put on a helmet light. Overall, I am very satisfied; its a great product for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars great helmet for an excellent price, July 31, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was pleasantly surprised with this helmet considering it was $30.00. Its lightweight, breathes well and fits like a glove (love the head harness system). I initially purchased it because I am a female with a small build (and a small head) and the reviews stated that the helmet ran a bit on the smaller side. Its really lightweight, could be a pro or a con. That being said it seems durable, although hopefully I will never have a real test of that.

Pro:
*Cost
*Good Air flow
*Fits well
* Looks cool

Cons:
* Could use a sun shade
* adjustment knob is a little hard to turn, but you shouldn't have to adjust it that ofter.

Bottom line - I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars This helmet saved my life!, February 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Giro Transfer Sport Bike Helmet (Sports)
While out on a warm winter's day ride, I had a wreck last Sunday. I landed on the left side of my head. I hit the pavement so hard that I was knocked unconscious for a while. The helmet's exterior was damaged. The internal part of the helmet was crushed in one area and fractured throughout the rest. If you were to look at the helmet, you would be led to think that the person wearing it would have significant bruising and wounds. I had neither!!! Had I not been wearing this helmet, I don't think I would have survived the crash.

Before the wreck, I loved the helmet. I was impressed with the fit, styling, and comfort. It was my favorite I had ever owned. A couple of days ago, it was time to order a new helmet (so I'd be prepared if/when my family let me ride again). As you might expect, I ordered the same helmet. It arrived today.

My story is a testimony to the value of wearing a helmet (we did not have them when I was growing up). I also think it's a testimony about the value of this specific helmet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great entry-level helmet, October 10, 2007
Great looking helmet, you don't need to blow hundreds to look like you belong. Why spend that much on something that's meant to break? Very easy to adjust and very comfortable. A great affordable entry level helmet.
