If you like Larry the Cable Guy, You'll like the book,
By
This review is from: Git - R - Done (Hardcover)
Larry the Cable Guy is a pretty known quantity. He's a redneck stereotype, who specializes in fart and poop jokes and comes off looking like a rube. That is his shtick and he does it well.
Surprise! If you like Larry the Cable Guy, and millions do, you'll like the book. It mixes some of his comedy shtick with some new material and meanders around known territory. If you don't like Larry the Cable Guy and you read this book, then ..... surprise .... you won't like the book either. Save yourself some time and then save us the trouble of having to read your whiney review and then mark it as unhelpful. If you haven't seen Larry's stand-alone routine (not the sanitized short version on the Blue Collar Comedy Tour) then you may find this to be a little "blue" and shocking. Maybe you should listen to his full version before you decide if you will like the book is the only warning I would give. I actually knew Larry, back in his High School days in South Florida. I found this book hilarious because I was able to read between some of the lines and know the real story. The truth is Larry is what he says he is. A farm kid from Nebraska who moved south, easily picked up on the red-neck accent and lifestyle. In high school he was a little fat-kid in the band but had a great sense of humor. Amazing what can happen in life. He's now the hottest thing since sliced bread and in movies, books, shows, he's every-where! So the bottom line for me is, more power to him. He found a niche. He's filling it and he's successful. God bless him, and God Bless America! If you like red-necky, dumb-guy type humor buy it. I'm generally a pretty sophisticated guy who reads across the board (see my other reviews for evidence of that.) I liked it as a change of pace. It was what I expected. If you don't like that kind of humor, don't buy it! Complaining about it is like buying an apple pie and then suing the baker because you're allergic to fruit! Larry has a more succinct way of saying it. Exactly what his fans like. If you're a fan buy it and enjoy!

Funny but offensive,
By John Wright (Occupied Mexico) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Git-R-Done (Paperback)
It is funny. Just too bad that Larry had to stooop to racist, hate talk--always directed against Mexicans--to appeal to the lowest common denominator reading this book. Oh, he is the perfect redneck and he will go out of his way to prove it, subscribing to every redneck goober sterotype out there--he supports the NRA, John Wayne, Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, (he was playing President when Larry wrote the book) NASCAR, lives in a mobile home, uses Skoal, and on and on. He is the perfect redneck, or so he portrays himself to cater to his base. He fills the book with jokes about flatulence and feces, it is, above all, oriented to the level of a jr. high school locker room. Too bad, I think he has a lot of talent for what he does. Just too bad the has to stoop to what he thinks is the level of his average fan. And that is an insult to anyone in the South.

I read 90% of the "Look Inside" review and got bored. His stage comedy is a lot different. The book is only okay. There are some things that are funny, and others that spur no reaction what so ever. The constant crack about pygmies gets old though. I'm not easily offended by this sort of thing, it just got annoying. Yes we know you believe they are just a group of dumb human animals in some wild country. Whatever. Let it go! Other than that it was extremely monotonous and flat in structure. He spoke mostly about what "pisses him off" or whatnot. I near fell asleep towards the end. And that was just from the review! I'd say borrow it from the library, but don't waste your money.
Sorry Larry. Oh, I Mean Dan.

Larry The Cable Guy at his best!!,

This review is from: Git - R - Done (Hardcover)
Never in my life have I read a book as funny and entertaing as this one. I read this at work, and got written up for laughing too loudly. Gives a good insight on how Larry got started, and of course, is filled with non stop laughs. Many of the jokes in the book you have heard before if you are a fan of Larry's work, but he takes the time to go deeper into them, which makes them even funnier then the first time you heard them. People who are easily offended by politics, racial comments (in a non-racist form), or plain 'ole humor, this book is NOT for you. But if you are somebody who grew up in rural america, like NASCAR, Skoal Smokeless Tobacco, and laughing your tail off, this will sit right next to the Bible as most important books in your life. LARRY THE CABLE GUY FOR PRESIDENT!!!

You need to appreciate Larry's type of humor to appreciate and enjoy this book. I found it very funny, and a really great stress release too. I found it even more enjoyable than the stand-up routine, which I find very entertaining itself!

Worst read ever!!,
This review is from: Git - R - Done (Hardcover)
I have enjoyed stand up by Larry the cable guy but this book was terrible and I wish that I could get my money and the time I spent reading it back!! What he wrote in this book truly shows how deeply racist this man is, I mean c'mon were all upset about the war and terrorism but there is no reason to resort to degrading, racist comments. I have a sense of humor but Im sorry, I just dont find racism very funny.

This book is hilarious. I liked chapter 2 where he promised the recipe of KFC and yet he forgot about. I also liked Chapter 6 which was the shortest chapter I had ever read in my life. I actually dropped a few IQ points while reading this book but still it was funny. GIT R DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just when you thought you've heard all Larry has to offer... it gets WAY better... I've only just started reading it the past 2 days, but I have to say it.. I DON'T CARE WHO YOU ARE THAT'S FUNY RIGHT THERE!!!!!
He's got hte downhome Good Ole Boy humor mixed 9at least i see it that way) with a good interpretation of how ALL "blue coller" working class people are. I may be a yankee.. but I'm from the great city of PITTSBURGH PENNSYLVANIA..... AND WE LIVE AND THRIVE ON GOOD OLE AMERICAN LIVING. Funny how Redneck verbage and Pittsburghese IS errily SIMILAR. Makes me PROUD to wave, wear and salute the red white and blue. |
