Essential Mal Waldron,
By Gazzelloni (Cincinnati, OH USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Git Go - Live at Village Vanguard (Sept 16, 1986) (Audio CD)
This 1986 outing for the Soul Note label has but only two tracks, albeit 20+ minute ones. "Status Seeking" and "The Git Go" are original compositions by Waldron. The energy from this quintet's live performance is easily felt and heard--a highly recommended essential CD.Mal Waldron (piano) Woody Shaw (trumpet) Charlie Rouse (tenor sax) Reggie Workman (bass) Ed Blackwell (drums)

Guess I am following arround Gazzelloni (just was listening to Hard Talk during Mal's great Enja early 70's period but this has INCREDIBLE band (Rouse whom I love could let it hang out though no one would question if Shaw,Workman and Blackwell could.).I would put this together in bookends with Seagulls Of Kristiansund -live At Village Vanguard as perfect inside/outside LP's for those who like avantgarde with structure and melody but draw line at Ayler, late Coltrane, and Cecil Taylor. Can't remember which one has "Snakeout" but get them both. They have tunes that have become post-bop standards
