5.0 out of 5 stars New Standard Set for Fingerpicking Guitar
Doyle Dykes lays down a new standard for fingerpicking guitar in Gitarre 2000--and when Dykes lays it down, it sta-a-a-ays there!

Dykes combines a relaxed precision with technical virtuosity and creative genius. His perfomances are breathtaking, without overreaching. What might be "too many notes" for others, seems easy and natural from Dykes as just the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Amazing fingerstyle guitar, but lose the string arrangements
I first heard Mr. Dykes on an acoustic guitar sampler CD--his contribution was a piece entitled "Hurricanes, Earthquakes, and Tomatoes," and it blew me away. It combines incredible technical skill with lovely musicality. That one song is simultaneously cerebral, emotional, subtly intricate, and over-the-top fun. A true tour-de-force.

3.0 out of 5 stars Amazing fingerstyle guitar, but lose the string arrangements, October 28, 1999

The same level of musicianship is evident on Gitarre 2000, but here the tone is much more introspective. Which is fine...until the strings start. Quite a few pieces are overloaded with string arrangements that are annoyingly bland.

I don't regret the purchase, and I do hope to enjoy Doyle Dykes' phenomenal talent on other recordings, but I sure hope he lets his solo guitar sing (and whisper, and shout, and purr) without muddying the works with elevator string arrangements.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Standard Set for Fingerpicking Guitar, November 20, 1998

Doyle Dykes lays down a new standard for fingerpicking guitar in Gitarre 2000--and when Dykes lays it down, it sta-a-a-ays there!

Dykes combines a relaxed precision with technical virtuosity and creative genius. His perfomances are breathtaking, without overreaching. What might be "too many notes" for others, seems easy and natural from Dykes as just the filigree on his sound tapestry.

His original material is truly new and first rate, and his arrangements of other composers' works always elevates them to a new level occupied only by Doyle Dykes.

The dynamic and timbral ranges Dykes achieves bring the fingerpicked guitar, for the first time, onto the same level with the piano.

All that flowery language aside, listening to Gitarre 2000 just gives me goose bumps of pleasure. Zen and the art of guitar! It's as if God were using Dykes to play guitar for us all. Dykes, through his guitar, is obviously praying, without preaching, and the effect is irresistibly uplifting in the extreme. Your roses will grow better if you play this CD for them.

If Dykes can repeat or surpass this performance, he'll shortly become the world's premier guitarist!

Of all places, I heard Doyle Dykes on the radio while driving on the Autobahn in Germany! I'm from Long Island and had never heard of him in the U.S. He was being interviewed and demonstrating his fantastic guitar playing ability. He makes it quite hard to believe that all of that sound is coming from one guitar. I'm looking forward to listening to Mr. Dykes while driving on the Long Island Expressway and remembering that I heard this American first in Germany. I wish that artists like Mr. Dykes were more well known in the U.S. They are our hidden resource of listening pleasure!

I absolutely love this CD. It truly helps my seemingly insatiable appetite for great acoustic guitar. Reading the leaflet about what inspired each song is also very heartwarming. I saw Doyle recently at a clinic and was not only impressed by his playing, but also his warm personality. I will be buying more of his records soon.

I can't say I have ever heard any other artist, produce the range of sounds from a guitar that I heard on this CD. The music has a soothing effect on the listener that is quite unusual.

I saw Doyle Dykes on TNN - The Grand Ole Opry and had to rush and get this CD. He plays the guitar like no one I've ever seen. I got goose bumps listening to Gitarre 2000. He is a wonderfully talented musician.

I had the privilege of hearing Doyle Dykes on stage of the Grand Ole Opry this past November. I was thoroughly impressed with his inclusive style - combining the best technical elements of classical, bluegrass, jazz, new age and more. His love for God is evident in his prayerful, reverent approach to playing. I also appreciated his heartfelt descriptions of each piece in the CD liner. This recording is a sweet treasure - I recommend it most highly.

In Gitarre 2000, with the use of some different guitars than in previous albums, it seems that Doyle Dykes is able to "cut loose" just a bit more. This CD is just more evidence of the gift and genius of the man, his heart, and his inspiration. Check out the new "perfect" recording of The Lord's Prayer on this CD. It's hard enough for a whole orchestra to be able to express the musical dynamics of this song. Yet, here is one man with only one guitar, and he can play a deluge of notes with power while achieving his trademark warm, clean tone.

Doyle Dykes again demonstrates the real reason the good Lord created Wood and Steel. Doyle Dykes lays down his most sensitive and personal feelings on Gitarre 2000.
