Stano brings a rich artistic background to this book, as seen in the illustrations, use of colour and foregrounding of the characters. By virtue of being a leading artist in the editorial columns, Stano is conversant with the language and ideas of the entire populace, and this shows in GITONGA, from comments about going to Dubai (where business is booming) and corruption in the police force, to the use of "sheng" (slang Swahili) as a medium of communication. His use of sheng brings his jokes closer to home, as he doesn't use sheng totally but more like language is really used in a country (in this case, Kenya) where people break into a number of languages in one sentence, like "Hiyo jet ya Saddam haikuwa na breki!"
