Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Digitally remastered import reissue of the 1984 album from Giuffria, led by former Angel keyboardist (and future House Of Lords member) Greg Giuffria and featuring Craig Goldy (Dio), David Glen Eisley (Stream) and Chuck Wright (Quiet Riot). One of the most under-rated Hard Rock albums of the '80s, Giuffria (the album) has continued to be a must-have by fans of everything that is AOR. The band's recorded legacy may not be huge, but their loyal fanbase continues to spread with each passing year. 10 tracks including 'Call To The Heart'. Axe Killer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quality 80's rock, May 25, 2000
By Mike (Iowa, USA) - See all my reviews
Having once again heard the song 'Call to the Heart' on an internet radio station, I had to get this CD. Have the remnants of the cassette which was played so much it was worn out. One of the greatest bands from the 80's, too bad they didnt continue to put out music as a group. This is some of the best 80's rock ever. Really pumps you up and puts you in a great mood, like most of the 80's bands. FYI-- I picked up a copy of Silk and Steel on CD at a Target store, out of the blue one day. Never would have thought I would find it there. I prefer this disc. Would consider selling the copy of Silk and Steel.

5.0 out of 5 stars STILL DOES ME RIGHT.....CALLS TO MY HEART!, May 1, 2000
By Kevin Dobbs "dragonboots" (Perth Western Australia) - See all my reviews
Simply hands down the best pomp rock CD ever. This CD is without doubt one of my desert island discs. Ok, so where to start, lets see....do you love keyboards set to stun? Well you get them here in abundance. Do you love well crafted songs with hooks so strong they never leave you? Well you get that too! Do you like your vocalists to have a little more originality than the latest Robert Plant wannabe? Well you get one here too! This lp never left my stereo when I first bought it in 1984 and it is 2000 now (jeez) and now on crystal clear CD it still spins with regularity. Stand outs? Well Greg's hair on the back cover for a start..(the man is a God)... though seriously song wise try these, the single "Call to The Heart" which is perfectly crafted AOR suitable for radio though not lacking in originality. The magical "Line Of Fire" with its swirling intro, and the room spinning "Out of The Blue" which is the best thing to which Greg Giuffria put a keyboard since Angel. Dont let it go out of print again before you think of buying this one. It took me nearly twenty years to find this on CD! Now..... has anyone found Silk and Steel yet?

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic melodic rock album, August 29, 2008
After the demise of the highly influential (and criminally underrated) band Angel, keyboardist extraordinaire Greg Giuffria launched one of the 80's absolute finest melodic rock bands, appropriately named Giuffria. He was joined by powerhouse vocalist David Glen Eisley as well former Quiet Riot bassist Chuck Wright and guitarist Craig Goldy.

Giuffria debuted in 1984 with a self-titled album that is for all intents and purposes the perfect snapshot of the era. It combined the arena rocking sound of bands like Journey and Foreigner with the harder-edged style of the emerging Hollywood hair metal scene. The result was a keyboard-heavy (naturally) melodic rock sound with catchy guitar hooks and David Glen Eisley's "silk and steel" vocals. It featured hit singles in the moving Call to Your Heart and Lonely in Love, but just about every song on the album is just as memorable. Giuffria's keyboards set the tone right at the start with the majestic intro to Do Me Right, and really it's all uphill from there until the very end, when the throwaway introductory track The Awakening and the way too mellow Out of the Blue (Too Far Gone) rob the album of its momentum.

Giuffria would go on to release one more album (1986's Silk and Steel) before evolving into House of Lords. If you're any kind of 80's rock/AOR/melodic rock fan, the Giuffria albums are must-have releases.

NOTE: Axe Killer's 1999 reissue of this album features digitally remastered sound that totally breathes new life into this classic album. The remastered audio makes this reissue well worth hunting down, and it's probably going to be easier to find than the original CD release.
