This review is from: Giuseppi Logan (Dig) (Audio CD)
This is classic Ayleresque free jazz from 1964 but more importantly it has stylings of its own. Some of the "exoticisms" border on world music. Obviously different scales and tonalities which certainly which was a new concept at the time (1964). And also the extremity of some of the dissonance qualifies this for influential on free improv. Some free jazz musicians were still doing standard post bop at the time. Coltrane hadn't even reached his atonal peaks. Yes for some you'd say its "just another obscure free jazz musician". Disappointing if you think this way as the stylings/tonalities of each jazz musicians' contributions make them unique and as it turns out Giuseppi Logan was discovered alive and well and performed recently in N.Y.C. from what I read. Certainly the early 60's to early 70's were a goldmine for free jazz and I could list 20-30 lp's that deserve official release on cd and legal download. The ESP catologue is certainly essential. Keep up the good work.
