5.0 out of 5 stars Can You Their Amazing Sound...? Incredible...
If you like a little Velvet Underground, mixed in with a little Beck, a tidbit of david Bowie, and a little bit of LCD Soundsystem - and REALLY an amazing chemistry on-stage, and a unique look you will have an idea of what they are like on-stage. I honestly can say - I am not always a HUGE fan of live shows - but their sound is not only so wonderful on CD - it is great...

1.0 out of 5 stars I'd rather listen to Doris Roberts.
First the good news; "The Most" is a fun, funky song that deserves to be this year's "Take Me Out." There's no reason why it shouldn't become a dance floor anthem and inspire the sight of lots of white men doing silly dance moves.
Now the bad news; it's one of the few songs that sticks out on an otherwise bland record. And perhaps most distressingly of all, "The...

I honestly can say - I am not always a HUGE fan of live shows - but their sound is not only so wonderful on CD - it is great live - they sound EXACTLY like the CD (ya know how some bands never sound that way?). Anyhow, I just saw them live last night at the Maintenance Shop at Iowa State University - and LOVED it... seriously... I think my students thought I was going to lose it... they just really have a sound and a look that is so unique, and different that I believe that they will be HUGE soon...... they have great new stuff that is not even on this CD - and I am telling you - well worth it... Oh, and they have such a GREAT sense of humor... VERY likable...

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing on cd and live, February 4, 2006

I first saw this band at the Granada in Lawrence, KS at the KJHK reunion night. All I can say is that I was blown away by their amazing stage presence. I was more amazed when I picked up the album to find that they sounded just like the live show. The trombone adds that little unique flair that makes it all come together. While their second guitar player is leaving, I have no doubt this band will bounce back and provide some smashing hits in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars this is a great band and a great cd, September 16, 2005
This review is from: Give Me All of Your Money (Dig) (Audio CD)
i was lucky enough to see them four times while they toured with billy corgan- and they were absolutely wonderful every time. their live show is even better than their cd- the band has a great chemistry and stage presence. this is a band that is headed for bigger and better things.

my favorite track (and the best one to see live IMHO) is 'the most'. it will make you drive faster.

buy this cd. you will not be disappointed.

I was fortunate enough to see this group open for Billy Corgan at the Pageant in St. Louis. They were the opener, and The Crimea was the second act. I really think it should have been the other way around, and so did most of the audience. This is great rock music, with a very unique sound. The band had great stage presence, connected with the audience, and put on a great show. It is not the norm for me to like an opener to the point that I buy their CD the next day after a show. This one really stood out. One of the things that sets it apart from all the other stuff out there, is the brass mixed in with the guitar. Very good blending. I would have to say that track # 2 is my most favorite on the CD. Well worth the money, and a great rock album from the opening track to the ending track. If you are tired of the same old recycled music that is on the radio and are looking for something new, pick this one up, and you will not be disappointed.

Nietzsche once said, "The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher regard those who think alike than those who think differently." Doris Henson is one of those bands would are going to stand out because they come from such a different place. They are rock band from Kansas. The "KC sound" is starting carry weight these days. Whereas some new wave bands seem ironic, this is the land without irony. Doris Henson recalls bands like The Church and School of Fish. "Let You Down" is straight ahead rock. It comes from a collection of pretty good tunes. Doris Henson combines emotion with folk and rock and creates something that you can listen to all the way through and be surprised at what comes around the corner. They are good.

5.0 out of 5 stars They Won't Let You Down, April 18, 2005
This review is from: Give Me All of Your Money (Dig) (Audio CD)
They've been compared to the Talking Heads, U2, Bowie and 70's art rockers, but you can't throw Doris Henson into any one musical category.

"Give Me All Your Money" is diverse, creative, sexy and fun. The more you listen to this record the more it grows on you. I look forward to hearing more from this exeptionally talented group of musicians!

Doris Henson (the band) was a stranger to me until I saw their live show at The Brick in downtown Kansas City. These guys, I felt, could easily be the next "big thing" for indie rock. The music this band plays is music that you must listen to. The lyrics are poetic and soulful, many of which are attributed to front man Matthew Dunehoo. The music has a "driving rock" element that carries it from song to song. This is a very strong album. A very good choice if you were to soundtrack your life. To find out more about this band visit dorishenson.com or just buy the CD. You won't regret it.

Now the bad news; it's one of the few songs that sticks out on an otherwise bland record. And perhaps most distressingly of all, "The Most" is not about "Happy Days" actor Donny Most.
The main flaw is everything seems to drag, like flatulence that continues to linger. "Sidestepping" and "When You Go" shouldn't have passed the five-minute mark, as there's no interesting interplay amongst the musicians that justify their length.
They should study the extended coda of The Beatles "I Want You." Lennon and Harrison's sinister guitars sound like creeping doom, eerie enough to encourage insomnia. Doris Henson will cure you of it.
