About the Author

Matthew Gollub has produced 15 children's books which have garnered numerous national awards and distinctions. A dynamic, bilingual speaker/storyteller, he has also performed at over 1,000 schools, providing language arts enrichment to over half a million kids. You will hear Matthew's voice in books like Jazz Fly 2, as he provides the be-bopping narrations set to jazz and Latin jazz music. Matthew Gollub is a children's author, speaker, storyteller and musician. He has created 15 picture books which together have garnered 25 national awards and distinctions. His musical narrations on audio CD--set to jazz, Latin jazz or rhythm and blues combos--accompany some of his most popular books. (Yes, that's also him playing drums behind his vocals.) He delights in introducing rhythmic sounds to kids while engaging their imaginations with stories. Parents: this lively guide to literacy, with its family-friendly illustrations and sensible, straightforward language, is chock full of ideas for getting your child's attention, encouraging reading, and modeling behavior which benefits kids at all stages of their development.
Teachers: the Spanish and English literacy booklets are great for sharing with parents of your students.

What a great concept - promoting reading as fun with an entertaining book that is fun to read! The author makes a compelling argument for the importance of reading in every family's life, not just something to be taught in the classroom. With the extreme popularity of electronic entertainment and the emphasis on sports in today's culture, reading can get lost in the shuffle. And, as the author points out, research has shown that kids who read are better prepared to succeed in life on many levels. Most importantly, this delightful book contains many practical bits of advice that will help even the most harried parent become an enthusiastic reading coach. The illustrations are dynamic, humorous and multicultural - inclusive of a wide audience. Should be a must read for anyone who spends time with children of all ages. THREE thunbs up!!!
