Wonderful mix,

The lyrics, vocals, and instrumentation in "Give Happyhead" are phenomenal. Unlike the bass-heavy tracks that thud into current popular culture, this CD presents an amazingly well-balanced mix of table-shaking bass ("Atomic Candy", "Get Out the Cab, Babe") and teeth-hurting highs ("Baby USA", "Hurt, Dirt, Desire").
Like the other reviewer pointed out, it is a shame that Marsh and crew didn't team up again to create and mix another album.

One of the best CDs of the 1990s,

It's an outrage that music this good was heard by so few. "Give Happyhead" is nothing less than a masterpiece--an absolutely flawless and really enjoyable disc that holds up exceptionally well. Not only is it one of my 10 favorite CDs of the entire 1990s, but it is one of my favorite CDs of all time. There's so much that is tremendous about "Give Happyhead"--incredibly catchy songs, interesting lyrics, great humor and satire (yes!), top-notch arrangements, really good quality of sound, an incredibly positive uplifting vibe, danceability, and above all else, it's "happy" music. No matter what mood you're in when you put this on, you'll be in a much better one by the time it finishes. It's a shame that Carl Marsh (a.k.a. Happyhead) never did a follow-on release. And it's an even greater shame he never received the acclaim and tremendous success that this effort deserved. And Carl, if you ever do see this review--THANK YOU!

I already had this CD and because it is usually in my husbands car, I ordered another copy. The band is great, interesting lyrics, interesting lead and backup vocals, interesting instrumentation. These guys are polished, apparently did this one thing and vanished so they gotta be someplace but I cannot find them. There isn't a bad song on the disc, it is great driving music. Atomic Candy is one of my favs but all are quite good and engaging. When I was a disc jockey, if there was additional airspace to fill up, I would "sneak" a favourite odd tune on...maybe U2 Surrender, perhaps Tim Curry's Simplicity, Out of Pawn, or his rendetion of I Put a Spell On You, or some Icehouse Stay Close Tonight or Dedicated to Glam etc. There is great music that never gets played. If I had this CD when I was a DJ, much of it would have been snuck on air for sure!

Carl Marsh shrieks back with Happyhead,

Carl Marsh recorded this highly underrated project after Shriekback became a Barry Andrews vehicle . Excellent songwriting, and the dance mixes are great - if you can find them on vinyl. One of my favorite albums ever.
