I purchased this to study for the US History 2 CLEP exam. It was totally sufficient for that, and very readable. Also nicely portable. The small publisher of this book is AWESOME and provides a ton of additional study material for FREE on their website. Absolutely recommend any text by this publisher.

More interesting than Brinkley's History books, but the format is much different. This isn't your typical text with side notes, pictures and keypoints thrown all over the place. It reads like an actual book explaining a timeline of events. I appreciated this, as well as the books size. I found it easier to read because my eyes weren't bouncing all over the place. I have no real complaints other than yes, it does tend to be wordy and drag a little sometimes, but the book is a credit to history from a clear perspective without the overbearing tone typical textbooks tend to have.

The book does contain all of the chapters however since the book is a smaller version than the college sized textbook it does not contain all of the maps or any of the additional text held in the margins of the larger textbook. If you are looking for a COMPLETE book this is not the one for you.

Like its predecessor, this is an amazing, thorough synopsis of the time periods. I bought this as a class requirement but it is something I will keep, pass on, and refer to often.

Rented this for my history class and I must say it has good content and it's very informative. However, if English isn't your first language, be aware that the language used in the book might make it a slightly slow read at times. By this I don't mean that the author should've written it in simpler English, it's just a friendly advisory for my fellow foreign students out there.

Now to the reason why I'm only giving it 3 stars; I find the glossy/shiny pages in the Seagull edition to be really annoying. While reading anywhere with a bright light source such as the sun or a bright lamp, the glossy pages cause a frustrating glare which interrupts reading and puts a strain on your eyes.

Nice, but could have been better. It drags on at points. Knocked out three times in one chapter.

The book is informative and comprehensive, but not for visual learners. It reads very much like a novel in terms of format- nothing is bolded or underlined or italicized other than headlines or chapter titles, which makes studying and finding information in a chapter quickly rather difficult. I like to have important terms and events and such stick out in my textbooks, and this one just doesn't do that, which is frustrating.

I think Foners books are amazing. They are very easy to follow and doesn't lead you astray. I like the first book much better but this one is still written well. You can tell the book is written with passion and accuracy. Givimh you details and facts you never would have thought about or new. It would be really great for high school too.
