Book Description

June 1, 2009

"Tandon's keen eye and idiosyncratic ear -- he picks up shards of language and refashions them, making new wholes from fragments of everyday speech -- combine to create a poetry with its own quiet urgency.  There is a music that plays beautifully from poem to poem, as the language in subtle ways probes the underlying beauties of casual syntax.  I look forward to Tandon's future work with considerable anticipation, although glad to have what he has given us already."

-- Jay Parini, author of Why Poetry Matters

Jason Tandon is the author of one other collection of poetry, Wee Hour Martyrdom (Sunnyoutside, 2008), and his poems and book reviews have appeared in Columbia Poetry Review, New York Quarterly, Notre Dame Review, Pleiades, and on Verse Daily. He teaches at Boston University.

5.0 out of 5 stars There is no one more unbiased than the heckler, because he hates everyone equally, May 4, 2010
This review is from: Give Over the Heckler and Everyone Gets Hurt (Paperback)
There is no one more unbiased than the heckler, because he hates everyone equally. "Give Over the Heckler and Everyone Gets Hurt" is an anthology of poetry from Jason Tandon who provides a dry, witty analysis of the world through his verse. Entertaining and insightful, "Give Over the Heckler and Everyone Gets Hurt" is a fine addition to any community library poetry collection. "For Our Anniversary": Now that the flowers have dried and withered,/I will tell you that they were a re-wrapped/bouquet-- severely discounted --/which allowed me to purchase/those two salmon fillets I glazed/with a bottle of maple dressing,/the crab cakes I served with a spoonful/of spicy mustard from the housewarming sampler/your mother had gifted us,/the package of pre-mixed chocolate chunk/cookie dough I baked from scratch,/and from a fundraising ballet troupe,/that banana nut votive candle/which lasted just the one night.
