Editorial Reviews

Review

“My friends Dick Armey and Matt Kibbe uniquely understand what this movement is really all about, where it’s going, and why it’s happening now. Give Us Liberty is a detailed recounting of both the philosophical evolution and historical development of the Tea Party. . . . If you find inspiration in these pages, know this: You must get involved. The incredible burden of responsibility put upon future generations by our Founding Fathers ultimately rests on your shoulders.”

5.0 out of 5 stars must-read!!! August 17, 2010
By JFB
Format:Hardcover
This book was fantastic, I am so glad I bought it. I feel like so many of the people who try to underestimate or talk down about the tea party movement have never even BEEN to a tea party rally!!

FINALLY, a book written BY the people, FOR the people of the tea party movement.

Admittedly, I was nervous this book would be boring, but it was a really fun read....I finished it in one day! I loved the way Armey and Kibbe tell the stories of a select few individuals who planted the seed for the movement in the very beginning stages. I only wish more people would tell their stories.

It's amazing what can be accomplished when the silent majority finally gets up from their couches and makes their voices heard!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book September 22, 2010
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
What a great book! It clearly defines the tea party movement and it's roots. Our focus is small government, low taxes and free markets and this book clearly delivers that message. This book is a must read for anyone concerned with the growth of government, out of control spending, national debt and taxes. After reading this, I decided to purchased the audio book from [...]. I have since listened to it about a half dozen times while driving.

This is an excellent book that explains the Tea Party from it's beginnings to current day and is a must read for anyone who wants to understand what the Tea Party is all about. The stories of events along the way are depicted exactly as they occurred. I know because I was a volunteer at many of these events.Give Us Liberty: A Tea Party Manifesto

5.0 out of 5 stars Give Us Liberty: A Tea Party Manifesto September 25, 2010
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This is a well written account of events that has led to a political upheaval. The "old guard" politicians have lost sight of who they work for, and the American public is about to remind them.
Dick Armey has a long history in politics and explains the events clearly.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Decent Introduction February 5, 2011
Format:Hardcover
If you don't understand the Tea Party Movement or want a starting place for opening conversation on the subject, this is a decent primer. The book tells the story of the development of the movement through the eyes of FreedomWorks, and a handful of cooperating agencies. At some points stirring and patriotic, it is decidedly written to prompt reader involvement and makes a point of preparing people to get started in peaceful activism for their cause.

Considering that I was not looking for an activist handbook, much of this was lost on me. I'm not sure what I expected from this book, but I definitely wasn't expecting what I actually found. It's a pretty quick read, so worth checking out and forming your own opinion on.

4.0 out of 5 stars Election Day can't come fast enough... August 18, 2010
Format:Hardcover
With his wonderful knowledge of the history of the conservative cause, Dick Armey brings us up-to-date on the current manifestations of the movement. Co-author Matt Kibbe brings an edge to the topic that will appeal to young Americans desperately seeking an alternative to the old ways of the two mainstream parties.

Reading GIVE US LIBERTY reminded me of an Abraham Lincoln quote: "Politicians are a set of men who have interests aside from the interests of the people, and who, to say the most of them, are, taken as a mass, at least one long step removed from honest men. I say this with the greater freedom because, being a politician myself, none can regard it as personal."

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good October 6, 2010
Format:Hardcover
Give us Liberty is a pretty good overview of the Tea Party movement, the people involved in it and what and how it has come about.

Dick Armey and Matt Kibbe (who should not be forgotten here) give a history of the tea party in the stories of the normal people who decided they had enough. Anyone who has covered the tea party as I have would recognize the stories, they with slight variation have been repeated over and over again in the words of average people I've talked to.

The stories are inspiring tales of the power of the average voter, but it is also a story of how the republican party failed to keep its promises and partly of the pragmatic decisions that a group has to make to achieve their ends.

There is not a definite history of the tea party (perhaps I should get writing myself) but it is a better than average start to understand the political phenom of this cycle.
