Book Description

August 17, 2010
Dick Armey's FreedomWorks organisation has become front and centre in the Tea Party movement "New York Times" - one of the fastest-growing and most talked-about political phenomena in recent memory. With its strong Anti-Washington bent, Tea Party followers are outraged by the false conservatism of the Bush administration, which did nothing to shrink government spending or the deficit, and are further alarmed by President Obama's massive bank bailouts, wasteful stimulus spending, and health-care legislation, according to Armey. In "Give Us Liberty", the former House Majority Leader defines what the tea partiers are fighting for - including lower taxes, smaller government, and more deregulation - and how citizens can join the cause. This activist manifesto contains a battle-tested, step-by-step guide to organising and effecting change in any community. Based on the successful experiences of Tea Party movement leaders, it includes tips on building a local network, composing letters-to-the-editor, signage, organising effective and well-timed protests, and more.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“My friends Dick Armey and Matt Kibbe uniquely understand what this movement is really all about, where it’s going, and why it’s happening now. Give Us Liberty is a detailed recounting of both the philosophical evolution and historical development of the Tea Party. . . . If you find inspiration in these pages, know this: You must get involved. The incredible burden of responsibility put upon future generations by our Founding Fathers ultimately rests on your shoulders.” (Glenn Beck )

From the Back Cover

Give Us Liberty is written for every American who is ready to stand up to the federal government’s unprecedented power, spending, and intrusion on personal freedom. As millions are realizing, our country’s future has been dangerously compromised as the national debt spirals out of sight to pay for a litany of irresponsible federal policies: “Obamacare,” Wall Street sweetheart deals, liberals’ pet social programs, Congressional pork, foreign aid, and new military adventures. Dick Armey and Matt Kibbe–economists and influential supporters of Tea Party activists and candidates across the country–explain what’s at stake, why limited government is the answer to our crisis, and how we can renew American prosperity by studying the lessons of the revolutionary era. This paperback edition also features a new foreword by Glenn Beck.

5.0 out of 5 stars must-read!!! August 17, 2010
By JFB
Format:Hardcover
This book was fantastic, I am so glad I bought it. I feel like so many of the people who try to underestimate or talk down about the tea party movement have never even BEEN to a tea party rally!!

FINALLY, a book written BY the people, FOR the people of the tea party movement.

Admittedly, I was nervous this book would be boring, but it was a really fun read....I finished it in one day! I loved the way Armey and Kibbe tell the stories of a select few individuals who planted the seed for the movement in the very beginning stages. I only wish more people would tell their stories.

It's amazing what can be accomplished when the silent majority finally gets up from their couches and makes their voices heard!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Election Day can't come fast enough... August 18, 2010
Format:Hardcover
With his wonderful knowledge of the history of the conservative cause, Dick Armey brings us up-to-date on the current manifestations of the movement. Co-author Matt Kibbe brings an edge to the topic that will appeal to young Americans desperately seeking an alternative to the old ways of the two mainstream parties.

Reading GIVE US LIBERTY reminded me of an Abraham Lincoln quote: "Politicians are a set of men who have interests aside from the interests of the people, and who, to say the most of them, are, taken as a mass, at least one long step removed from honest men. I say this with the greater freedom because, being a politician myself, none can regard it as personal."

Crappy Dicky
Dick Armey and people of his ilk will do, say, or print anything that they think will bring them money or power. Beware lying demagogues.
