Some of the best from the "lab", November 12, 2011

I've been a Black Lab fan since I first heard them live at club Lupo's in Providence, R.I. back in '97 when they opened for Our Lady Peace. A few friends of mine had bought their album your body above me, and that was officially my soundtrack for the last year I was in highschool. I kept track of them for years, and I'm glad I have because Paul Durham and the boys have gotten nothing but better. These tracks are like the missing links between all the other albums they've released. Most of these songs could have been includuded on any of their albums, but were cut for some unknown reasons. Now they're all here and are some welcomed "sugar" to the ears. 'Sugar', the track itself, is reminiscent of 'the rolling stones' and stands out on this double album, as well as the melancholy ballads of 'underground' and 'keep myself awake'. It was a shame to know that 'Body as a marker' was cut from "Your Body Above Me" -- it shouldn't have been, but fits nicely here. There are also a few tracks such as 'circus lights' and 'see the sun' that were arranged a bit differently, melody and lyrically wise, and I have to say I appreciate them more than the actual polished tracks on the 'see the sun' release. And great renditions of 'Body and an angel' and my all time favorite 'gates of the country' --though I always miss hearing 10,000 years in the same cluster. But that's why we have ipods. All in all, if you're a fan of the lab -- grab it. I was lucky enough to be one of the few hundred to get an autographed copy from Paul himself!
