Product Description

POLIÇA began as a collaboration between fellow GAYNGS' members Channy Leaneagh and Ryan Olson in June of 2011. By July the pair had completed 11 songs, made the key additions of two drummers and a bass player, and headed into the studio to put the finishing touches on what would become POLIÇA's debut album, Give You The Ghost. After Mike Noyce (Bon Iver) lent his voice to a couple of tracks, Lay Your Cards Out and Wandering Star, the record was brought to Austin, TX, where it was mixed with Jim Eno (Spoon). With its sultry R&B rhythms and intensely electro, goth-pop vibes, Give You The Ghost could not be more perfect.

Review

POLIÇA deals in a type of R&B inflected electronic music that defies explanation... Music with this many synthetic textures and vocal treatments has rarely sounded so natural. --Spinner

Auto-tune majesty with a heavy bass-line and sexy, lonely rhythm. --Gimme Noise

They're the best band I've ever heard. --Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, 2/13/12

Customer Reviews

Makes me want to see them live.
Tim Coleman
Very good song list, the whole thing is good to the end, and I think it really has a good flow to it.
S. Kosloske
Can't wait to see them at coachella!

If one would like to read an excellent bit about the genesis of the band, check out the online article circa Valentine's Day by Chris Roberts at Minnesota Public Radio, found specifically on the Daily Circuit page.

The CD is packaged in an environmentally friendly way and comes with a lyrics sheet.

Band members are Channey Leaneagh, vocals, Chris Bierdan, bass, Drew Christopherson, drums, and Ben Ivascu, drums. Ryan Olson is the man behind the curtain.

Mike Noyce of Bon Iver is featured on the beautiful "Wandering Star" as well as "Lay Your Cards Out."

If a director were looking for soundtrack music for an edgy, mysterious, and sometimes suspenseful flick, some tracks on this disc could be a nice fit.

Personally, I find it to be great music for motion, like driving or biking.

Good Debut. "Amongster," "Dark Star," and "Lay your cards out" are the highlights for me on this record. Great tunes that will find their way to mainstream and get stuck in your head. Gave it 3 stars because some of the songs I can do without and they tend to blend together. Also, as I played the album for the third time found myself growing tired of some of the sounds of the lead vocals and lack of power of the album. If you are into Phantogram, Purity Ring, or spacey-glam-synth beats with a female singer, you will like this album. I have a feeling this is a band that is much better live and their true sound didn't transform as well as it could into a studio recording.

There are some good songs and some great melodies but the over-processed vocals get very tiresome after a few listens. Some of the vocal effects add to the atmosphere but they are completely unnecessary in some cases and actually degrade the overall product.

We saw Polica at 1st Avenue, and got the CD today. A spectacular and very cool soundscape. Not quite like anything else.

This outfit from Minneapolis is one of the best bands to come out this year. 2 drummers, a bassist, and a vocalist playing through a TC Helicon Voicelive module. A lot like Celebration, but more electro. Top-notch music.

On a personal note, this was the sound I was looking for. Flowery vocals, pure, raw drumming, heavy bass, and trippy synth.
