Questionable Reviewers,
This review is from: Give Your Elevator Speech a Lift! (Paperback)
Note: I have not read the book. This review concerns the user reviews.
Amazon provides great service by allowing users to review books. Some reviews are more helpful than others. The less helpful reviewers are sometimes friends of the author who promoting the book. These reviewers seem to be biased, friends(?) of the author. First, Jeanette Nyden is both a user reviewer and an Editorial reviewer. Second, most of the reviewers have only one review, this book. Lastly, the reviewers are concentrated around Seattle, WA. In summary, if you are interested, buy the book. But be aware that Amazon's user reviews may not reflect the value of the content.

I agree with Jason Wirth's comments. Seems that the author sent out 'reviews' to her friends/family to post. I don't think that the one reviewer who is into online fantasy gaming would be reading or needing information on Elevator Speaches!

Great advice on how to explain who I am in the business world!,
This review is from: Give Your Elevator Speech a Lift! (Paperback)
With "Give Your Elevator Speech A Lift" Lorraine Howell has taught me a brief and yet precise method of explaining exactly what I do in my business. The book took less than two hours to read, fully understand, and learn how I now answer when people ask, "What do you do?" In less than 30 seconds and just a handful of words I can clearly state the purpose of my business and what I do. After I give my "elevator speech" I'm finding people follow-up by engaging into an inquisitive conversation to learn more about my business and what service I can offer their business.

Great advice on crafting this CRITICAL message!,
By
This review is from: Give Your Elevator Speech a Lift! (Paperback)
As a professional career coach, one of the most tricky aspects of the work I perform is to help people come up with a concise, memorable "pitch" that they can use in their job search networking activities. This message is so critical to creating a positive impression on people, and generating useful referrals, and yet many job seekers (and business people) fail to spend any quality time at all working on or practicing this crucial communications element.
This being said, I was extremely pleased to read Ms. Howell's book and learn more about the simple, proven framework she has used to help business professionals master the "elevator pitch" challenge. Her advice is spot on, her examples are very illuminating, and her step-by-step approach makes it easy for anybody to craft a more effective introduction for themselves that leads to highly positive business outcomes. Additionally, unlike many business books today, she sticks to the heart of the matter and doesn't add 200 extra pages of "padding" to belabor the key points she's trying to make. If only more authors out there followed this "quality, not quantity" approach! Not only have I already incorporated some of Ms. Howell's suggestions into my own networking pitch, but I've started handing her books out to clients and business contacts of mine, as well, since I think virtually everybody stands to benefit from Ms. Howell's wisdom on this topic. Hope another volume is soon to come relating to other real-world communication challenges that professionals face in the market today!

This book makes it easy to say what you do!,

This review is from: Give Your Elevator Speech a Lift! (Paperback)
This book pinpointed exactly what I needed to know to create an effective networking statement. I loved the fact that the book was a quick read - plus, everything was in laymen's language so I could easily understand what I needed to do to come up with a "what do you do" answer that makes sense and gets people to react. I also loved the excellent tips about speaking to the media, and considering that the author is known for providing that kind of help to some of the country's top CEO's, I found her ideas very useful and easy to understand for small businesses, too. I wish more books were written this way - short, succint, easy to understand, and worth the price in the new business I know my new and improved networking speech will bring me.

This book was immediately useful!,

This review is from: Give Your Elevator Speech a Lift! (Paperback)
This book is so down-to-earth and practical! In two hours, I crafted a great elevator speech for myself. Then I used it in my networking and business for the next month. It's amazing how much of a difference it made. After I give my thirty second "elevator speech", the person usually says "tell me more!" That is music to my ears. Plus, I appreciate the fact that this is not a long book. I'm overwhelmed with all the business books I'm supposed to be reading. This one was relevant and immediately useful. I want all my clients to read it!
