Book Description

October 1998
Hubert de Givenchy's style is a magical alchemy of background, training, friends, travels around the world, visits to museums, and most important, his collections of painting, furniture, and decorative arts. This fascinating book, created in close collaboration with the designer of the rich and famous, explores the sources of inspiration of a brilliant artist who created a look that was the very essence of Paris chic.

Filled with the fragility of Audrey Hepburn and the frivolity of the Duchess of Windsor, the book visits Givenchy's chateau outside Paris, his seaside house in Cap Ferrat, and his magnificent townhouse on Paris' venerable Rue de Grenelle. It follows Givenchy to his office, his atelier, and his fittings, while personal albums and never-before-published pictures illustrate how a very private life has influenced the way the whole world looks and dresses.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful photographs, but less about clothes than I expected, November 14, 1999
By
This review is from: The Givenchy Style (Hardcover)
This book is full of lush photgraphs of Givenchy's clothes and homes. There is less written about his fashion designs than I hoped there would be. However, if you are interested in his beautiful homes and gardens this is the perfect book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Givenchy's Lifestyle...More than just His designs., September 24, 2010

This review is from: The Givenchy Style (Hardcover)
Hubert de Givenchy's style is a magical alchemy of background, training, friends, travels around the world, visits to museums, and most important, his collections of painting, furniture, and decorative arts. This fascinating book, created in close collaboration with the renowned designer of the rich and famous, explores the sources of inspiration of a brilliant artist who created a look that was the very essence of Paris chic. It follows Givenchy to his office, his atelier, and his fittings, while personal albums and NEVER-BEFORE-PUBLISHED pictures illustrate how a very private life has influenced the way the world looks and dresses. Also includes two of his recipes.

Describes not just the fashion and clothing design Givenchy is best known for, but also his interior and garden design, and his collection of objet d'art. Accompanied by beautiful full page photographs 12" high, some of which were taken by Victor Skrebneski.

A book that when opened never fails to reveal and inspire.
