5.0 out of 5 stars The bear in Native American stories, art, and culture, August 10, 2003
Now in a newly revised and expanded edition, Giving Voice To Bear: North American Indian Myths, Rituals, And Images Of The Bear by David Rockwell is a thoughtful and informative survey of the bear as depicted in Native American stories, art, and culture. Presenting legends that involve the bear; as well as providing eighty-nine black-and-white photographs of bear designs on works of art; along with extensive research; and informed comparisons and contrasts between how the bear is perceived by various Native American tribes, Giving Voice To Bear is a welcome and "reader friendly" contribution to personal reading lists and Native American Studies reference collections.
