Oui et non,
This review is from: Glad to Be Here (Audio CD)
Restent trois chansons a danser excellentes : "Your love is good to me" (dans la version longue du maxi-simple), "Joy of life" (courte mais agreable) et "Glad to be here".

Truly A Rare Find!,

Years ago, I heard the Bernard Edwards had a record out and I bought it. I'm a hardcore Chic fan and love everything they've ever done!
Years later, I started collecting the CD versions of their music plus other music from that era. I thought it would be impossible to find this one ANYwhere. It appeared on the CDNow website and I put it on my Wish List. It was unavailable at the time. My patience was rewarded a little more than two years later when a second party had a copy available. Naturally, I pounced on the opportunity! The CD was delivered in EXCELLENT condition - cover and all. It even has the lyrics printed in Japanese and English! There also appears to be some other notes in the cover booklet (Japanese). My favorite cut on this set is "Don't Do Me Wrong". It's typical of Chic written/produced music, although I wondered why the lead vocals were done by a woman instead of...say...Bernard himself. Oh well. The woman sounds like one of the Chic lead vocalists - even though she wasn't. It's a beautiful song devoid of the electronica that was emerging on the music scene at that time (some of which is present on this set). "Your Love Is Good To Me" is another song that caught my attention. The incomparable Luther Vandross is listed as one of the backup singers and you can hear his voice throughout the track. "You Don't Know Me" is the third song - a breezy tune showcasing Bernard's voice. He's no Luther, but his delivery does the song justice. He does better than a lot of today's singers. I also like his rendition of "You Really Got A Hold of Me". Again, you can hear Luther in the background. Mr. Edwards' musical legacy and his contributions to the music industry are numerous and had a great impact on many artists. It's sad that he's no longer with us. He's up (out) there with Luther and Chic drummer Tony Thompson beltin' 'em out!

Bernard Edwards forever,

Dance!!!

- THE GREATEST BASS PLAYER !!!.. -,

This is THE album !.. Actually, if you are a real CHIC fan, you got to own this masterpiece !.. 'Nard was really the soul of CHIC, and with this album you'll be able to touch its deepness. It is also a CHIC album, everyone is here, even Josh', I mean Jocelyn BROWN, she sings on almost all songs !.. It is not an album in which you'll find hits, but cool songs in the spirit of "At last I am free" or "When you hear this song...", huge monuments of soul. Listen to "Glad to be here", and then 'Nard's productions like THE POWER STATION or DISTANCE, and you might realize that he was such an amazing genius... even in Rock music !!!.. I tell ya, THE GREATEST !!!..

Transitional Chic Organization Work,

This album represents the bridge between Chic's main body of work and their 1984 oddity Believer. Bernard Edwards' solo project saw him flirting with drum machines and synthesizers, but without having the music overwhelmed as it was on Believer. The album has Nile Rodgers playing guitar on several tracks, Chic singers Alfa Anderson and Luci Martin providing choral vocal duties, and Jocelyn Brown providing lead vocals on several tracks. There is a Smokey Robinson remake and several ballads. On the title track, Edwards reunites with both Nile Rodgers and Tony Thompson for what is in effect a Chic track. The lyrics didn't match those of Chic or Sister Sledge, but Edwards gets to try out his interesting voice on several cuts. Overall, this album stands closer to Chic work than Rodgers' solo lp's do.
