5.0 out of 5 stars Gutsy, Bluesy Voice and a Fabulous Band!, October 25, 2002
This review is from: Glad Game (Audio CD)
This 9 song set contains a range of songs all crafted from a variety of musical influences: blues, rock, soul, and pop. The CD starts out with the knee hoppin', finger-poppin' "Bring It On," a funky, rock-based romp. It ends with the more mellow "Late At Night," an upbeat song with a slightly dark tinge to it. In between, we are treated to pop songs like "Go" which could surely play on mainstream radio, "Hard To Say Goodbye," a bluesy rocker, and "Dez's Song," which is a reflection on whether to let go and love--or leave up the walls all around. The vocals are clear and gutsy, sung with depth and range. The lead guitars and harmonica are particularly fine, with all the musicians doing an excellent job supporting the lead singer's smooth voice.

This artist has generously allowed her lyrics to be used in my new novel, UNDER THE GUN, and the song "Go" is featured in the forthcoming novel, DIFFERENT DRESS (May, 2003). If you've read the books, check out the tunes that go with the lyrics. This is a CD you'll return to, over and over, and I give it my highest recommendation.

5.0 out of 5 stars A most-definitely-gotta-buy-it CD, October 19, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Glad Game (Audio CD)
From the very first heel-thumpin' sounds of "BRING IT ON" - the bluesy sound of "GOOD TO ME" - the pulsating rhythm of "GO" (her voice and the words "Sweet sticky summer day" - oh my!) - the throbbing reverberation of "FOUGHT A FEELING" - followed by the down and dirty rockin' blues sound of "HARD TO SAY GOOD-BYE" - then into the soul-searchin' mellifluous creamy sounds of "DEZ"S SONG" - with a nice change of pace into "WILLOW" and ending with the mellow softness of "LATE AT NIGHT" - Fantastic!!
With the combination of sound, lyrics and Kristen Schuldt's voice - and what a voice it is - there is not a bad track on the entire CD, This is a most-definitely-gotta-buy-it CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive, energetic, filled with raw emotion, October 1, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Glad Game (Audio CD)
Hydraulic Woman is fronted by singer/songwriter/rhythm guitar player Kristen Schuldt, with 6 other talented musicians. Glad Game is a commanding blend of rock, blues, acoustic & electric. Kristen's vocals are a spectrum of highs & lows, power & grace; she can sing with a hard edge or a sweet, smooth flow. Kristen's songs capture a variety of moods that are conveyed through soulful guitars, balanced bass lines, steady percussion & textured vocals. This collection is masterfully produced with vocal blends & brilliant harmony; all the songs are energetic & filled with raw emotion. `Wait' opens with stark blues laden guitars, a steady sexy beat & questioning vocals that are a hook from start to finish. `Hard to Say Goodbye' also starts with striking guitars, a solid groove, & expressive vocals with a sugary edge. Instrumentation throughout is impressive; the band has lots of synergy. HW raises the bar & Glad Game powerfully captures the highs & lows of this rocking blues band. ...
