Product Description

GladRags The Moon Cup (Size B) - 1 Menstrual Cup. Description: The Moon Cup is made of soft, non-latex, medical grade silicone. This flexible, latex-free menstrual cup collects the flow rather than absorbing it, so the vaginal tissues aren't dried out as they can be with disposable tampons. The Moon Cup holds up to an ounce of fluid and should be emptied several times a day; simply rinse and reinsert. Discreet and easy to use, even in a public restroom. Lasts for years, saving you money and keeping tons of waste out of landfills. Size B is for women who have not given birth. These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. These products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

ALRIGHT LADIES LISTEN UP.

It took me one hour.

ONE HOUR, and I had already decided I would use these amazing little cups for the rest of my bleeding life. TWO HOURS, and I pretty much threw all my tampons and pads in the darkest forgotten corners in the shelf under my bathroom sink. I don't know how I went a whole 7 years without this 'holy grail'. Those were the dark times, before I was enlightened. These days, I can run around, do my entire gym routine, sit in awkward positions, even do a freaking hand stand, and I won't leak a single drop. I can go a whole 8 hours on my heavy days without even thinking about taking the cup out (YMMV*)! IN FACT, some days I don't even remember I'm bleeding uncontrollably. I can even put this thing on in the shower, so I actually feel clean after my shower! WHAT A CONCEPT!

But you wanna know what the best part is?!

I'll bet you do.

SLEEPING. IN. I can sleep in and not wake up to a freaking CRIME SCENE in my sheets. That's right ladies. Sleep in whatever position however long you want. Side, back, tummy, for 12 (YMMV*) HOURS it don't matter. This little cup doesn't give two craps about your sleep habits. Hot diggity, If that doesn't convince you, I don't know what else will.

B-b-b-but what if it doesn't fit? Or hurts when I put it in?
Well now, that's were looking up information about these little cups will come in handy. There are many brands that come in different widths and lengths. This particular brand interested me because the cup was supposed to be one of the shorter ones on the market. And putting it in is tricky at first, and you gotta figure out what works best for you. But trust me, its well worth the efforts.

B-b-b-but reviewer!

I am fairly new to menstrual cups and this is the first one I've tried. If you don't know much about cups I highly recommend browsing through the Livejournal menstrual_cups community to do some research.

Anyway, after all of the horror stories I've read on that site about painful insertion and difficult removal, I'm surprised to find that this cup is relatively easy to use. I had absolutely no trouble inserting it once I found the fold that worked for me. Removal is not as easy but is by no means difficult, just requires a little patience because it takes slightly longer. The stem pokes a bit so I may trim it once I get better at removing it. So, there is a slight learning curve with this product, but it is totally worth it.

I am really looking forward to never having to buy pads or tampons again and I really recommend this product!

Here are some tips if you are using a cup for the first time:

1) Rinse the cup off; it's easier to insert when it's wet.

2) Try many different folds until you find one that works. There's a great video on Youtube that demonstrates different menstrual cup folds.

3) Once it's in, grip the base and turn the cup in a circle to ensure a good seal.

4) When you go to remove it, break the suction first by either gripping the base of the cup, or reaching a finger in and pushing in the side of the cup. If you don't break the suction before pulling it out, it may be painful to remove.

5) You don't need to boil the cup or wash it with soap if you don't want to. Some soaps can cause yeast infections if they aren't thoroughly rinsed off. Bacteria can't grow on silicone, so as long as you rinse the cup off with water, you should be good.

6) If you find the cup is not working for you, it's possible that it isn't a good fit. Don't give up on cups! There are many different brands of all shapes and sizes.

I've been using the Diva Cup off and on for a few years. After losing my Diva Cup recently (long story), I decided to try this brand for a while. The Moon Cup has a similar design, but has some important differences. The main difference that I have noticed is that the silicone is thicker and stiffer. The rim of the moon cup is noticeably thicker than the rim of the Diva Cup. This is both good and bad.

The advantage of having the stiffer silicone, with a thicker rim, is that the moon cup pop open much easier after insertion. With the Diva Cup, sometimes I would need to remove and re-insert it a couple of times because the cup would remain collapsed no matter how much I pinched or twisted it.

The disadvantage of this is that the moon cup can be a little bit difficult to insert, especially at first. I've had problems with it popping open before it is inserted. It was a bit frustrating at first, but once I got used to it, it hasn't been too much of a problem.

The thicker silicone also means that the cup doesn't "disappear" as quickly as the Diva Cup. It takes longer for the cup to warm up and become pliable. So I notice it for quite a bit longer than I did with the Diva Cup. Once it gets heated up, though, it "disappears" just as well.

Another difference between the Moon Cup and the Diva Cup is that the Moon Cup has a significantly longer stem. That's not a problem, since the stem can be trimmed, but it is important to note. With my Diva Cup I did not need to trim the stem, but with the Moon Cup, the stem was so long that it was really uncomfortable. Once trimmed, it was fine.

I have noticed that the Moon Cup does not leak as much as the Diva Cup. I imagine that has to do with the thicker silicone, which probably makes a tighter seal.
