I'll preface this by saying that I have not had a lot of reason to use this much rope, but it was much cheaper to buy a spool instead of 50' lengths and the experts say that rope is a necessary part of a camping kit :D .. OK that said, this rope is strong enough for what my needs which are markedly more pedestrian than surviving in the wilderness with a toothpick and a half-eaten pack of Mentos.
So what have I used it for: 1) Zipper pulls. Yup, works fine. I consulted a book of knots and made a fancier pull than my normal square knotted loop. Looks purty. 2) Wrapped the handle of a Cold Steel machete that had seen a bit too much abuse. It made it quite comfortable and yup, looks purty. 3) Boot laces. It's actually looks to be exactly the same sort of cordage on my boots. 4) Lastly, just for giggles, I took a 15' length and looped it over a tree. I made two loops on the end with figure-eight knots (I think that's what it was called) and swung around for a bit. Wheee. Held my weight without breaking (I'm around 200lbs). Cons: None really, except that when you cut this rope you should use a lighter to singe the ends or the outside covering tends to pull back. Or you could just knot the end. I gave it four stars because the shipping costs are half of what the item costs so not as good a deal as it could be if free shipping were available.

Just like the real thing?,

As far as I can tell, yes, it's just like the real thing. I spent enough time in the Marine Corps to put our 550 cord to use (Hell, it was on every gear checklist for everything from training to actual deployments to the Middle East!), and while I never had the chance to test that cord for its rated weight capacity, it served its many purposes. Now, this 550 cord? Feels just like the real stuff. It's got the seven strands on the inside and everything. While I won't ever really put this to heavy use, its serving its purpose now: Being used to make 550 cord/paracord/survival bracelets, for my close friends and for myself. Now that I've fulfilled my time in service, I'm not very close to any military bases, and I'd rather not go hunting for this stuff in Army/Navy surplus stores, so being able to order it through here is very convenient! For what I'm using it for (making macramé bracelets), I highly recommend it.
