GREAT!, May 25, 2008
This review is from: Glade Wisp Flameless Candle Unit & refill,Clean Linen scent (Misc.)
The Glade Wisp Flameless Candles are really great!
I have always loved candles.... especially at holidays and special occassions. So, in 1998, when i developed a medical condition that required me to use & keep tanks of oxygen in my home, and meant i could no longer use/light candles due to the explosive danger of flames & oxygen, i was extremely disappointed. To me, not having candles at holidays is like putting up a holiday tree without decorating it!
So, when i discovered Glade Wisp Flameless Candles (through the Bzzagent), i was thrilled. (and wished i'd thought of that! ;) )
The gladeflamelesscandle.com web site can explain it better than i can, but it basically is a combination of a flameless candle, that flickers & glows like a real candle, and an automatic scented oil air freshener.
I was slightly skeptical before trying it, thinking it probably wouldn't look as good as a real candle flame and that, like many automatic air fresheners, the scents would be too obnoxiously strong and would only be available in nauseating floral scents. I thankfully was wrong. It's flickering glow looks exactly like a real candle - guests have been surprised to discover it's not a real candle. There's a control that allows you to set the intensity/strength of the scent it emits. And it comes in 6 scented oil fragrances - Clean Linen, French Vanilla, Hawaiian Breeze, Apple Cinnamon, Rainshower, Orchid Oasis. I've only tried Clean Linen & French Vanilla sofar - and like them both.
They are nice looking, and look good in any area inside & outside your home. Another neat thing i like is that you just press down on the top to light it up, and after 3 hours it automatically turns off. And even when it isn't lit, the scent continues dispensing.
The starter kits come with everything needed - a pretty frosted glass holder, the main pillar candle shaped unit, a scented oil (that last 45 days), & 2 AA batteries (that last 30 days). The starter kits come with either the Clean Linen or French Vanilla scented oils, but as i mentioned above, the scented oil refills come in 6 scents.
They are a quick, easy way to add decor, soft light, & scent anywhere, and are a great option/alternative for situations in which regular candle flames or forgetting about lit candles could pose a danger, such as in bedrooms, around children & pet, near people using supplemental oxygen & oxygen tanks, and for those with memory challenges (ie: alzheimers). I've found they are useful as night-lights, light source during power outages, & night time reading light. They also make special, unique gifts - ie: housewarming, graduation, get well, college care packages, etc. [...]
I really like GWFCs, and definitely recommend them to anyone & everyone.
(check the gladeflamelesscandle.com site, they offer great coupons and neat photos/videos that show what GWFCs look like & how they work.)

smells amazing, March 14, 2009
This review is from: Glade Wisp Flameless Candle Unit & refill,Clean Linen scent (Misc.)
I love the glade flameless candle. One of my phobias is leaving a candle lit by accident. I placed this in the bathroom....because its 'flameless' I easily could put it in a shelf above the fixtures and not worry about it getting too hot and burning the shelves down. Plus it lends a spa feel to the bathroom.
We've tried the vanilla, clean linen, apple cinnamon and Hawaiian breeze. Our favorites are the linen and vanilla, I didn't particularly like the Hawaiian Breeze. The little scent refills last quite a while...maybe 2 months or more? Which is great because I don't pay much attention to it.
One of the reasons I like it so much is because its not as obvious to guests. They never are quite sure why it smells so great in the bathroom, because it's not one of those unattractive plug-ins. I hosted a bachelorette party last summer and every girl who came out of the bathroom was asking why it smelled so amazing in there. At the time I was using the linen scent. It does have a masculine quality, but I liked that so it's not too flowery for the guys and it's also very fresh smelling and perfect for a bathroom. Depending on what kind of feel you want a room to have, you can pick accordingly. When we use the french vanilla, the bathroom feels warm and cozy.
The only downside is it uses batteries like nobody's business. I'm always shocked how fast it goes dead. I just use rechargables, so it's not a big deal to me, but it was definitely noticeable how often I have to change them.

Glade VS Air Wick, December 29, 2008
This review is from: Glade Wisp Flameless Candle Unit & refill,Clean Linen scent (Misc.)
I have purchased both Air Wick and Glade (Air Wick Lumin Air Flameless Scented Oil Candle, Vanilla Passion - 4 Ea) brand flameless scented oil candles and here is a detailed comparison. I tested Air Wick with Vanilla Passion and Glade with Clean Linen and French Vanilla:
Glade:
+Cordless
+Realistic "flame" and flickering
-"Flame" a little too dim
-French Vanilla doesn't smell like vanilla at all. Clean Linen smells like cologne
-Takes specific scented oil cartridges
-If you are at an eye level just barely level to the candle, you can instantly see that it's not a real candle. Needs to be placed higher up if you want it to be convincing.
Air Wick:
+Takes standard scented oil refills. You can buy refill packs for both the candle and the standard scented oil units in your home, giving you a higher variety of scent options and you don't have to worry about them discontinuing proprietary cartridges.
+A slightly higher viewing angle is needed to see that it's not a real candle
+Does not need batteries
+Fragrance has slightly more coverage
+Vanilla Passion has nice warm convincing vanilla smell
-Corded
-Has power button, cord, and oil level cutout on the back of the outside, which when combined with the cord severely limits where you can place it
-"Flame" not very realistic. Light is at a constant level most of the time, not very much flickering.
-No way to change level of fragrance
-"Frosted Glass" is actually plastic
