And now a word from the male side of the house...,
By "sittius" (Taylors, SC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Gladiator Diet: How to Preserve Peak Health, Sexual Energy and a Strong Body at Any Age (Paperback)
This book contains some of the best information I've ever seen (and used) for keeping men healthy, active, and vigorous. The good doctor lays it all out in terms that even one of us simple food gatherers can understand. It is targeted towards women trying to keep their husbands , etc. alive and fit, but most guys will not only be able to read it, but should be able to glean enough information from it to start down the road to a healthier life. The information is presented with humor and in layman's terms, although by the time you complete the first chapter, you'll know a good bit more about the digestive tract than you learned in high school biology. I highly recommend this book ,especially if you don't feel like starving yourself thin or stocking up on expensive supplements and food bars. I've lost a good 35 lbs on the diet and I feel like I'm ready to go into the arena :) And for those women with men who don't seem to care about their health: Get the book and follow the plan. With any luck you'll be very pleased with the results ( in more ways than one if you get my drift)

Save Your Man!,
This review is from: The Gladiator Diet: How to Preserve Peak Health, Sexual Energy and a Strong Body at Any Age (Paperback)
Want to save your man? Want him to see the grandkids, have enough energy and vitality to make life exciting and interesting? Men are well known for not taking care of themselves. In fact, the only thing that will get them to the doctor's office is when things stop working south of his beltline. Dr. Gillespie, in her new book The Gladiator Diet, tells us how your guy's testosterone level is the key to his good health. I have had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Gillespie for my women's online magazine Pinksunrise about her book. After reading Gladiator, women will easily see how making a few changes in her guy's life will not only prolong his life, but make him feel better and have an active life. She spends time talking about the secrets of male sexual impotency. Millions of men are affected by impotency. This can have damaging effects for their relationships. The heart-break and frustration of male erectile dysfunction is very painful and often leads to depression and despair. The Gladiator Diet helps men, through natural, nutritional, and life-style changes, to regain their sexual selves and also lose weight! Gladiator also works to help men live healthier lives and promotes emotional well-being. Every woman who loves her man should buy this book- it will help everyone!

Irritable Male Syndrome Cure,
By Fiona Fox (Dallas, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Gladiator Diet: How to Preserve Peak Health, Sexual Energy and a Strong Body at Any Age (Paperback)
I got this book after reading an article on Irritable Male Syndrome on AOL/WebMD/MSN. First, this book contains a wealth of information about men, testosterone and the effect of foods on the levels of testosterone in a man's body. It is written with a lot of "female" related humor, which is why most men grab the book from their wife as she falls to the floor in hysterical laughter. Not only did my gladiator shed 10 pounds easily, but our relationship became much better because he wasn't as "irritable" from work stress.

It Works...Primarily Mentally, Oddly Enough,
By A Well-Known Crackpot "Q" (Hub City) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Gladiator Diet: How to Preserve Peak Health, Sexual Energy and a Strong Body at Any Age (Paperback)
I'm a trained folklorist and "pop culture archaeologist"...I write and speak on how popular cultural trends of today are influenced by events, metaphors, styles, etc. of the past. This video suggests that the principal component of any diet or exercise regimen is the story we tell ourselves about who and what we're BECOMING through out fitness regimen. To maintain motivation to work hard over time (and any and all fitness plans require hard work over time...don't let anyone fool you about that!) we need to be emulating our heroes, whether they're real or fictional, an individual or a "category " (e.g. gladiators, Navy SEALS, Shaolin monks, etc.). What this author understands -- above and beyond nutrition, in which field she seems very skilled -- is that the metaphor must come FIRST if we are to begin and follow through with the work.

Not For Men,

This review is from: The Gladiator Diet: How to Preserve Peak Health, Sexual Energy and a Strong Body at Any Age (Paperback)
While the principles may be sound, this book is an annoying read. It is written for women who want to change their men, not for men interested in nutrition. It is not very technical, and is sprinkled with cutesy little sexist remarks like "Afraid he'll think you're serving him a portion fit for a sparrow instead of a vulture? Use smaller plates. (Men are so easy to fool!)".Very disappointing. Update:

The good doctor has useful information, but you have to wade through some unnecessarily technical nutritional jargon to get to it. Add to that the stilted attempts at hip humor, and you have an awkwardly written book. The recipes are also tough to live with (what in the world is steel cut oatmeal?) I recommend that you skip this book and buy Testosterone Advantage Plan in paperback. The nutritional info is easier to understand, much more useful, and the diet is something you can live with.
