Gladiator's poorest product,

I can't imaging doing what a previous reviewer suggested - drilling pilot holes and hand-screwing these screws. Maybe it's OK if you're doing a few pieces of GearTrack, but my installation was over 40 GearWall panels (over 1000 screws), and I would have gone insane had I used these. Not to mention the prohibitive cost (especially for a poorly made screw).
For anyone doing a large installation, do yourself a favor and buy some Headcote square-drive screws. The downside is that they don't have a matching head color (I used the standard gray head), but they go in like butter, and you never have to worry about pre-drilling or stripping. Because they are square-head, very little pressure is required to drive these screws - you can drive hundreds without getting tired (assuming you're using a cordless driver). Once you go square-head, you'll never buy a Phillips again. Gladiator would be doing their customers a HUGE service by contracting with the Headcote manufacturer to make their #8 x 2" square-head screws in the GearWall color, so that we could buy a quality screw either from Gladiator or from 3rd party distributors. These aren't the exact ones to use, but you can see the quality from the picture: Ipe Decking-2-1/4" Brown Headcote screws Bottom line - I'll live with the gray heads... after all, most of them are covered with gear!

Terrible - Instant-Strip-Screws,

These screws are made of aluminum which means that they will not rust. Unfortunately, the aluminum is so soft that they can not be used. I tried several screws and they all stripped when I used my drill. This is bad for two reasons
1 - They will strip before you can get them flush 2 - They are difficult to remove once they are 1/2 into the stud Final Verdict -I had to return them back to the store. Do yourself a favor and just buy regular (and cheaper) wood screws. 1 Star

These screws are awful. They will not sink flush with the track. They strip very easily. You can do what the second review said and take a lot more time is needed. Or you can buy regular 2 inch dry wall screws and have a much easier time. I like the way the dark screws contrast with the white tracks. To sum up this review, DO NOT BUY THESE SCREWS.

These were included in another Galdiator product I purchased. I love most Gladiator products, but these are horrible. They WILL strip. Use some traditional wood screws instead.

Don't waste your money on these screws!,

As all the others have said: YUCK! I bought 2 boxes of these and realized later what a pain it was going to be to try to work with these in my garage. Go any other route, but don't bother with these.
I use Walldog anchor screws for EVERYTHING... no more hassle, no more stud finding (I can find one or two studs and then drive these in wherever and no mess with anchors! In drywall alone they can hold 60lbs per screw. I've drilled them in drywall, studs and masonry. AND you can get them with white screw heads! I use 5 on a 42" track and haven't had any problems with the heads getting in the way of the attaching gearworks items. |
