A Fantastic Variety of Tunage....,

Gladiator is an excellent film, and the soundtrack is no exception. Released in '92, it features tracks by some of the best artists of the time, as well as the styles of music that were so popular back then. Included we have rock, pop and even hip-hop. The set-up of the album is wonderful from start to finish. We start off with an excellent cover of "We Will Rock You" by Warrant ("I Saw Red" fame). From here we progress through a nice version of "Pride (In The Name Of Love)," a great pop song in "Hold On Tight" by Tony Terry, along with songs by early 90's greats Gerado ("Rico Sauve" fame) and P.M. Dawn ("I'd Die Without You" fame). The nice ballad "Count On Me" fits in quite well at the end of the disc. The album closes with an amazing song by Cheap Trick, "I Will Survive." This is one of the true great rock songs, and is a strong anthem in any instance. The last songs here are the best parts of the disc and truly make it worth the purchase. If you're still a bit leary, just check out the film and listen to the sound-bites. I know this'll hook you, because it surely did me!

Hit or miss, but worth it for the Warrant and Cheap Trick songs,

Here's another one of those soundtracks from the late 80's/early 90's that you wouldn't otherwise bother with except that they have one or two rare rock songs. The 1992 Gladiator was a boxing movie and shouldn't be confused with the (much) more popular Russell Crowe film of the same name.
Anyway, the soundtrack is a mix of hip-hop/R&B with a few hard rock songs. Most are pretty forgettable (Gerardo, anyone?) but there are a few gems here. My main reason for buying it was the two exclusive Warrant tracks - "The Power" and an electrifying cover of Queen's "We Will Rock You." Cheap Trick's "I Will Survive" is also a great tune. The PM Dawn song is also pretty good. Like the soundtracks to Navy Seals and Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead, the Gladiator soundtrack isn't a great album all the way through, but if you're a fan of that era's hard rock sound, there are some good songs that are more than worth the price of a used disc.
