Hard to stop playing, in a "crack junkie" kind of way...,

I played Gladiator until 5am the day I first played it. That said....1. Patience: Don't judge this game by the opening! It has one of the the WORST opening sequences I've ever played, and it lasts 20 minutes! 2. Value: Don't buy this game for more than $5, under any circumstances. 3. Battle: The name of the game is RE-PET-I-TIVE; you have two buttons to attack with, there's no clear difference between the two buttons except that one seems to make slower (but not stronger) attacks, and there's a weird time delay after you press a button, so I literally found myself pounding two buttons, constantly and mindlessly, whenever I got attacked. 4. Targeting System: I would need to make up words (because none yet exist) to express just how bad the targeting system is; your character attacks enemies in no particular order, locks back on when you hit something, won't lock on when you need him to, you have to hold a button to switch targets, and YOU CAN'T STOP ATTACKING WITHOUT PRESSING A BUTTON. So why did I play it? Once you get past the lousy control, the HORRIBLE targeting, the annoying camera, and the pathetic "puzzles", there's a moment when you're swinging a huge axe around in the middle of a bunch of beautifully rendered monsters, spinning and cutting and generally acting as an agent of godly destruction, and that moment is sweet.

Warning: this game is not for kids!Gladiator for the XBOX is a hack and slash game, very similar to "Lord of the Rings" game. Set in ancient Rome, you play a character named, Evictus Thrax. You fight against other gladiators inside arenas. You'll also fight against magical creatures such as the skelatal warriors which sprout from the ground. There are a few puzzles with switches and levers that need to be activated in order advance. They are rather simple to figure out. Then there are challanges that transport you into another dimension. The action does get a bit repetative, but fun for the most part because the combo attacks fills up your blood meter, when your blood meter is full, you fight faster and harder with combo moves. The action is bloody and brutal as you slash with your blades at enemies and even execute them with a special move. Pros: +excellent graphics +excellent sound effects +good controls +good animation +upgradeable skills +bloody and brutal +fast loading Cons: -repetative gameplay -challanges are difficult -single player game

Although I have had "Gladiator" for some time, I just recently blew the dust off and began playing it...and I must say I kick myself for waiting so long - especially considering some of the crap I have played - which will remain nameless - for the most part - as I am sooooo embarrassed!!! (Can we all say "Fugitive Hunter"!!!). First off, the graphics in the XBox version are quite beautiful - right down to the field of grass blowing in the breeze. In addition, the characters are well drawn (especially the hero) and the storyline compelling. Note should be made of the better-than-average voice acting, as well. This is also one of the bloodiest games I have played!!! Being a BIG fan of "The Suffering" and "Manhunt" this is a GOOD thing!!! Not only does the red stuff flow freely with each hack and slash - there are some extremely gruesome finishing moves that you can execute (so to speak) if you are quick enough!!! One quibble.....there are far too many skeletons that you must battle in the early stages....some variety would have been most appreciated! However, with so few gladiator-type games on the market (as of this writing - however I see some great potential on the horizon!), "Gladius" and "Circus Maximus" now have a worthy adversary.
