Lids cracked easily,

I loved the GladWare that I bought at the supermarket about a year ago, but it seems that they've changed the design of the lids. These new lids were very difficult to open, and several of mine cracked as I was trying to force them open.

Agree with initial comment: lids crack/tear,

My sister-in-law has tons of these in all sizes and shapes. The reason I'm here looking for 24-oz Gladware is because I was very ill over the holidays and unable to attend Christmas dinner at her house. She sent leftovers back for me: about 15 different Gladware containers. The older ones with the flat lids are fine, however, in transferring the goodies from her containers to my own, I destroyed 3 of her newer domed lids just trying to open the containers. I realize pushing on the center dome of the new lids is the answer, but that didn't help much. I think she put the food in while still hot/warm and the suction sealed their doom (the lids, that is).
I went through a similar disaster with the leftovers she sent home to me for New Year's as well. I tried my hardest to open 2 containers and gave up because I just knew I was going to crack them. Had my hubby (her brother) try - he broke 2. Had my girlfriend try the others: she broke 1. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. When I called my SIL to tell her I had done it again, she just couldn't understand it: she's never broken any. Sigh. Think I need to get some of these and keep them on hand just for those times I break more of hers.

I've used these Glad containers for probably 10 years. I use them for leftovers, for sending food to friends' houses, for kids' snacks, and for keeping hardware like screws and nuts contained in one place. We've also used them over the years to keep grasshoppers and various other insects and tadpoles long enough to admire them before releasing them. I've used them for putting out water for the cats when their bowl has frozen over, and I've used them as a scoop in a big bag of bird seed. They're the perfect size for so many jobs, and if they break or get stained I'm not upset. The bowls themselves are rectangular and hold 2-3 (up to 24 ounces) cups of whatever. They wash well and don't get brittle with age. The lids are a little more fragile, but I hand wash them and air dry them in the dish drainer so the heat of the dishwasher doesn't destroy them. This 30-pack of bowls and lids is a great value. With free SuperSaver shipping (on orders over $25) they are .89 cents each. If you get them through Subscribe & Save you'll get the free shipping and the price drops to .76 cents each. I can't imagine our household without these great little bowls!
