Book Description

May 20, 2009
Glamour. It's hard to define yet most know it when they see it. Today, glamour may still invoke the sophistication and refinement of the golden years of Hollywood art deco, but country, industrial and even nature glamour have joined the more traditional modes.

The 21st century has brought glamour and her sisters, decoration and ornamentation back into home design news. Today's most cutting-edge homes embrace design of every kind from every corner of the globe. It's a marriage of disparate styles that finds no contradiction. Glamour is in vogue in homes that are castles (literally) and in one-bedroom rentals at the fringes of downtowns.

Looking at homes recently featured in Metropolitan Home, Glamour, Making It Modern reconsiders them through the following sections:

concepts: looks at the defining general notions of Modern Glamour, such as sheen and scale,
objects: examines elements of home decoration which are inherently glamorous,
rooms: tours homes where everything comes glamorously together.

With a directory of the designers, some of the best in the business, and a list of resources for available products, Glamour, Making It Modern is purely inspirational and absolutely accessible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Want a little glamour in your home?, May 26, 2009
This review is from: Glamour: Making it Modern (Hardcover)
If you like sophisticated, fresh, glamorous design, which is very popular now, you'll enjoy the pictures and quotes from designers in this book. It's a great collection of the most up-to-date, livable contemporary design in one book, that has a sophisticated, glamorous edge. Elements of glamorous decor, whether they be chandeliers or daybeds, are combined in successful rooms utilizing the design so you see how rooms can be put together in an original way. This book should be in style for some time as it integrates classic elements of glamour with the more contemporary enactments of it.

The book definitely has a modern edge as the cover picture demonstrates, although I liked some rooms inside better than the cover picture. There's an eclectic mix inside to inspire you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of Met Home, Best Home Design Book, November 16, 2009
This review is from: Glamour: Making it Modern (Hardcover)
For all of us who are devastated at the closing of Metropolitan Home magazine, this book is a little consolation prize now that there isn't that monthly treat of the magazine's arrival. It is quintessential Met Home Modern, but with a wonderful overlay of spectacular and helpful designer quotes. Each chapter highlights a specific area of the home, and each is filled with extraordinary yet "doable" ideas to freshen most any home--from a small apartment to a huge house. GREAT gift!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not so Impresive/Inspiurational book., January 4, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Glamour: Making it Modern (Hardcover)
Let me begin by stating that I am an interior designer so I look for very unique and clever ways to design and decorate. I figured this book would be filled with inspiration and new ideas to be inspired by, being that it is supposed to be a collective of Metropolitan Home Magazine's best interior shots.
Unfortunately I didn't find anything that I felt was inspirational or "new". Page after page was filled with expected design schemes and nothing that really knocked my socks off.
Again, I come form a place of harsh critique but I did expect a little more from Met Home. Maybe this is a glipmse of why the magazine has gone belly up!
I would not buy this book again if I had the second opportunity, if you know what I mean.
