Make no mistake...this is primarily a picture book...a book that demonstrates the ways hundreds of artists are using glass to make art.

While the author's common thread is the relationship of each artist to a studio in Brooklyn, Urbanglass (formerly known as the New York Experimental Glass Workshop), the real commonality is the material...glass.

For those interested in contemporary sculpture, this is a very important, informative book.

How many ways are artists using glass to make art? Richard Yelle explores this subject in a gorgeous picture book you will want to look at over and over again.

Short essays by the Curator in Charge of the Smithsonian's Renwick Gallery; the Director of the Charles A. Wustum Museum, Racine, WI; the former Curator of Contemporary Glass at the Corning Museum of Glass; the Curator of Contemporary Art at the Tampa Museum of Art and the Curator of Contemporary Art at the Norton Museum of Art, West Palm Beach, Florida intelligently address interesting issues.

Glass Art from UrbanGlass is a great overview of the contemporary studio glass movement, especially artists working at UrbanGlass. I was given this book as a gift. It looks great on my coffee table. It is beautiful. I didn't know that there could be so many variations in glass. I had always thought of glass as practical and had no idea about the artistic possiblities it has to offer. But the glass in this book is gorgeous and interesting. The pictures are fun to look at and, because there is very little text, it is perfect for coffee table reading. I wish I knew more about the Urban Glass studio, but what ever it is, I like it.
