3.0 out of 5 stars CONTEMPORARY ART made from glass
Make no mistake...this is primarily a picture book...a book that demonstrates the ways hundreds of artists are using glass to make art.

While the author's common thread is the relationship of each artist to a studio in Brooklyn, Urbanglass (formerly known as the New York Experimental Glass Workshop), the real commonality is the material...glass.

For those interested in contemporary sculpture, this is a very important, informative book.

Glass Art from UrbanGlass is a great overview of the contemporary studio glass movement, especially artists working at UrbanGlass. For a further look at current glass artists, also check out Richard Yelle's latest book, International Glass Art. Information about the UrbanGlass studio can be found on their web site http://www.urbanglass.org

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Glass!, May 5, 2000

I was given this book as a gift. It looks great on my coffee table. It is beautiful. I didn't know that there could be so many variations in glass. I had always thought of glass as practical and had no idea about the artistic possiblities it has to offer. But the glass in this book is gorgeous and interesting. The pictures are fun to look at and, because there is very little text, it is perfect for coffee table reading. I wish I knew more about the Urban Glass studio, but what ever it is, I like it.
